A story how someone has achieved the unreachable. NOT A TRAINING MANUAL!
Whilst it is interesting to read how Cesar has overcome a poor upbringing and has now become the face of dog training, his methods are a little dated. br /The problem I find is that people read this book and believe they can do just as Cesar does. His methods of domination and correction, in truth, are twenty years out of date. br /The pack theory has been proved to be just that, a theory. Real evidence points to the facts that dogs do not form packs, especially within the domestic house. Therefore, all this 'make yourself the pack leader' is incorrect. br /The best thing about what Cesar teaches, is to remain calm. A calm teacher is the best teacher. He is no doubt a good handler but I advice you not to stop at this book and believe you know it all. Look beyond it, there are more positive and friendly ways in which to teach a dog. i've recently heard so many people blame issues on 'dominance' and 'leadership' when really the dog is either attention seeking, confused or simply scared!

Truely Cesar...
While I don't really "follow" Cesar, I have seen a few of his programmes and wanted to read this purely as another viewpoint on dog training, to go along my other books such as "Canine Body Language" and "Getting in TTouch With Your Dog". br / br /It is a "good read", well set out and ordered, with helpful "case studies"; however (more so than my other books) there are parts that you can/will follow, and parts that you wont/can't follow as they don't mesh with your own system of beliefs. I was also saddened to see that Cesar knows very little about what he says are the "major" breeds he sees - something a little research would easily cure. br / br /Certainly a good accompaniment to go with books by other behaviourists etc , but I wouldn't like to see anyone read it on it's own, or only with his other books.

Loved it
I enjoyed reading it along side with his TV series. This book tells you who Cesar is and how he became who he is.... Not just a dog book.

cesar's way - No Way!
Having met several dog owners using this mans 'techniques' i feel very sad for the dogs. I dont like his methods which i find unkind and unnecessary - of all the programmes about dog training this is the most dangerous in my opinion as people follow his way blindly.

Understanding dogs
This book is very interesting and for anyone interested in dog behaviour. If you enjoy the "Dog Whisperer" then you will love this!
