Brutal, Gripping, Powerful, Loved It!
After hearing rave reviews about Martina Cole I decided to give this book ago and see what all the fuss was about and boy am I glad I did! From the first page you are plunged into a brutal world of murder, gangsters, prostitutes and battered wives.Being in a violent relationship myself for 3 years I identified with Susan and her world so much. This book gives such a accurate insight into what it's like being in a domestically violent relationship and leaves nothing out.Being brutally honest to the point where at times I had to put the book down to have a cry and get a grip on myself. The men in this story are so disgusting I'd challenge anybody who reads this book not to feel some sort of disgust or rage towards them.Brilliant characters that will make you laugh and cry, brilliant plot, totally gripping from start to finish I was reading it at every chance I got.Definitely one of my favorite books of all time,I would recomend this to anyone except maybe the faint hearted! I can't wait to read more from this author!

One of the best books i have read...........
I actually read this book a couple of years ago- was the first martina cole book I had read as it was recommended to me and I can honestly say I loved this book that much I now own each book of hers!

Compared to her other books this one is by far the best- my other two faves been the runaway and dangerous lady - her older books definitely been a lot better than her newer ones which I have to say I have found the last 3 quite awful and repetative!

Anyway this book was brilliant and I have read it more than once which isnt something i usually do with books , the story centres around Susan who has grown up with an abusive father and is looking for a way out - which is in the form of her husband -who turns out to be exactly the same!

This story really makes you appreciate your life and look at it and think "god im lucky" because some horrendous things happen to sue in this book and believe it or not they do happen in real life! All that keeps Susan going is her children - she wouldnt go on without them in my opinion!

I am a massive martina cole fan and I would rate this higher than 5 stars if I could as I found it brilliant! I hope the book she brings out this year will be better than the last 3 she has brought out!

Loved it!
This for me is classic Martina. I have read a fair few of her books, and this one was brilliant.

Its quite violent in places, but its a great story. Like has been mentioned in other reviews, the summary on the back of the book is a tad misleading, as the book is mostly about Susan, but nevertheless it really is a good book. Its not for the faint hearted!

I WAS WELL IMPRESSED WITH THIS BOOK, BUT..
I enjoyed this book so much that i decided to put cole on my list of favourite authors. However, she wasn`t there long because every book of hers that i read after that was like a re-run - loads of sex, violence, ill-gotten wealth, glamour, `gangsters`, drugs, prostitutes, beaten wives etc etc. You can only read the same stuff a couple of times before you get tired. I think it`s time cole either changed the record or put away the type writer for good.I give this book 5 stars as it deserves it - but she can`t expect to keep selling the same story under a different title and a different front cover.
