Pokemon Strategy Guide! This new release for the impending Pokemon Battle Revolution game for Nintendo Wii arrived today promptly as ever from Amazon. This book has fantastic pictures, illustrating both old favourites from the LeafGreen/FireRed/Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald series and newcomers from Pearl and Diamond in 3D visuals. The guide also shows some of the extended features of the title game: Mystery Gift for Pearl and Diamond allows the purchase in the game of rare power-up items like TwistedSpoon and Charcoal for import to Pearl and Diamond. Interestingly, Pokemon from the DS generation of Pokemon games are COPIED to the memory card for PBR, not traded, so that you seem to be able to retain your hard-trained champions on the cartridges and still have the benefits of being able to use them, presumably post-storyline, in the new 3D environments. However, reading between the lines, the lack of trading that is implied between the covers suggests you won't be able to move Pokemon like after finishing Gale of Darkness or Colosseum to complete pokedexes. The Guide suggests the game follows a much more Tournament style format, like its predecessors Mount Battle encounter, rather than the usual Team Evil BadGuys corrupting pokemon for their own ends, with the ultimate challenge being to dismantle the organisation from the grass-roots up.
On the whole, the book details very little of the plot of the game, if any, merely listing the line-up and likely combos of threatening moves to enable strategic planning. As a result it is hard to give this guide a full 5 star review. Its great they haven't revealed plot spoilers and its great that they've outlined the wireless features that make it worthwhile owning a DS and a Wii for these games, but as it is shy about the game and whether trading is enabled, I'm reluctant to give it full marks until the games released. All in all good value for money if you want a glimpse of pokemon in redeveloped 3D.
