However, this book is just a bit too suferficial for that purpose. It is clearly focused on diving/divers and not really a great book to get a deeper understanding of the variety of species and knowledge of these species. Also, it only covers a minority of common species of the Mediterranean and as I said without the depth I was looking for. However, I would recommend this book for divers with little knowledge about the Mediterranean fauna and that are interested in getting a brief idea of what they might find while diving there.
I bought this prior to a recent holiday to Greece, where I made 3 dives. 99% of what I saw underwater was easily identifiable in the book.
br /Previous dives in Greek waters ahev been less interesting as I had no idea what was seeing.
br /I definitely recommend this to anyone planning to dive or snorkel in the Med - there's plenty of marine life out there if you just take the time to look for it. And this book will help you work out what you were looking at.
Bought this for a diving trip to Malta. Covered most of the species seen whilst diving. The book contains a useful guide to the ecology of the species ranging from algae and corals to fishes and reptiles, with details of habitats, behaviour and food sources etc. A colour photograph of each species is accompanied by a short description - helpful for easy identification, though some of the photographs are not the best. Would recommend it to anyone visting that area of the mediterranean.
