SynopsisForget the image of maiden aunts and country fairs - cake decorating has become cutting edge! Peggy Porschen is at the front of this new trend. Her cute designs have won her a host of celebrity clients - she provided the chocolate Faberge eggs for Elton John's "White Tie and Tiara Ball" and designed the stunning cake for Stella McCartney's wedding. Her instantly recognisable designs are inspired by current trends: Bollywood mini cakes are lavishly decorated in rich pinks and glitzy golds, cookies include funky handbags, Doris Day Polka dots, candy coloured stripes and romantic sugar blossoms and butterflies. The book begins with an easy-to-follow introduction showing all the equipment, basic recipes and techniques needed to make the cakes. Readers of all skill levels can then go onto the subsequent chapters: Cookies, Cup Cakes, Miniature Cakes and Large Cakes. All the designs have comprehensive instructions and crystal clear photography so that a stunning professional finish can always be achieved.
About the AuthorPeggy Porschen grew up in Germany, a country renowned for its cakes. She moved to London in 1998 graduating top of her class at the prestigious Cordon Bleu school. From there, she went on to work as patissiere at the Lanesborough Hotel and with master baker Gerhart Jenne at Konditor and Cook on London s South Bank. Quickly developing her own highly individual style, she left there to set up her own business, which was instantly successful. Soon she was making cakes and cookies for major events of all kinds, including chocolate Faberge Eggs for guests at Elton John s 2003 White Tie and Tiara Ball. Most recently she has started supplying Fortnum & Mason with an exquisite range of decorated cookies and speciality confections. Her cakes have been featured in magazines and newspapers as diverse as the Daily Mail, The Sunday Times, The Financial Times, Wedding Flowers, Brides, You and Your Wedding, Wedding Day, OK, Delicious and Marie Claire.

Cakes for All OccasionsI make cakes for a living so was only really interested in the cakes when I ordered this book but the cookies are so cute and fun too. The cakes are stunning and I think beginners can attempt them as well as experienced decorators. Absolutely beautiful cakes, makes you think of english summer garden parties. I love Peggy Porschens work and since buying 2 of her books have booked onto one of her courses.

Was there a proof reader?I bought the book when it was first published and believe that is has been re-published so hope that the negative comments below have been resolved.
This could have been a fabulous book. The cakes are the most incredible I have seen in any book, the author has such an amazing eye for design and colour. It is well worth looking at this book once just for the inspiration, and envy her talents.
However, my problem is with the publishing house chosen. I wrote a letter to the author, care of the publishing house, pointing fifteen pages of mistakes that I noticed with two days of buying the book. Obviously, I didn't get a response and I doubt whether the author even saw the letter.
The photos were in the wrong order so they didn't correspond with the instructions; items were missing from the equipment photo (even a big gap on one photo that should have alerted people to the absence of equipment), ingredients and weight measurements missing from recipes etc. I am sure that you get the idea. All of these anomalies should have been spotted before going to print.
Peggy really needs to right a clause into any contract for future books giving her final approval before it goes to print.
Fabulous book, shame about the proof readers!

Colour therapy for rainy days!Peggy Porschen's book is a joy to look at with it's many gorgeous photographs and certainly very inspirational. However, she makes things sound a little too easy at times. I tried the fondant fancies and when I dipped them into the icing, like she describes, the latter was full of crumbs afterwards. Regardless, the cakes taste wonderful and I love her style of decorating!

Inspirational CakesI have been cake decorating on and off for a few years now, but have been mostly relegated to doing novelty birthday cakes for my children nowadays!
This book is gorgeous - it has inspired me to do some non child orientated cake decorating - and am now desperately trying to think of a reason to invite people for afternoon tea so I can make some of the fantastic fondant fancies and iced biscuits.
It is an inspiring book - if you're a beginner you will probably need to practice a little, but Peggy Porschen's book shows that glamorous and beautiful cakes (and cookies!) don't need to be saved just for special occasions. So I'm now off to order some edible lustre to make the Bollywood cakes.

Modern, colourful cake decorating!Peggy Porschens bright, colourful approach to cake decorating is a refreshing change from the old fashioned style of icing. I've tried 3 of the recipes/ideas from this book already, including the fondant fancies and the flowerpot cakes. I'd give this book a 5, but some of the techniques are still a little dificult for beginners, overall though she explains them well and the book is beautifully photographed. The basic cake mixtures are extremely good too, the fondant fancies tasted wonderful.
I'm going to try the magnificent rose cake next month for a friends birthday, I'm sure she'll be blown aways if I can make it look as good as Peggys!
