Badly written, tedious and not very funny
Hugely disappointing, especially after reading all the glowing reports on here. Badly written with long, inconsequential paragraphs about nothing much and, for me, only two mildly amusing lines in the first half of the book. I've forced myself to read that far and cannot be bothered to go on with it. I really can't believe so many people find it "brilliant" or "hilarious". A shame because I am a cat fanatic and this Tom Cox is obviously a nice bloke.

delightful reading
I came across this book on line .. what a delight to read,, Tom Cox is a cat man through and through I really enjoyed it .Not as funny as A Cat Called Birmingham.. but funny all the same,, This is one book I shall read over and over .Certainly one to treasure ,

Cats: who could resist them?
This is a must for all cat lovers - and for those who are not. Their cute habits (and not so cute) are all laid bare in a very human story. The more cats the merrier seems to be the order of the day. The book has laughter, sadness and all the twists and turns of life. Above all it illustrates how man is linked closely with domestic animals, in this case his beloved cats. It certainly mirrors my own experiences with the independent, but loving creatures.

I'm under Tom's paw
What a book! What an author! I, being the cat person that I am completely 'got' this book, and my partner, who (strangely) is not a cat person, laughed just as hard and as loud as I did. br / br /The perfect book - well paced, funny, moving, sad in places and author Tom Cox always leaves his readers wanting more. br / br /It took me 2 sittings to get through.. I can't recommend this book strongly enough.

what a fantastic read!
Wow, this is definately my favourite out of all the books I've read this year, so far. I can usually spend 3 hours standing in a bookshop deciding which book to buy, but this one instantly appealed. It was a book about a chap who likes cats music, mainly focussing on his relationships with the cats in his life, past present, what was not to like?! by some miracle after all this build up in my head, of how fantastic it was going to be, it somehow didn't disappoint! I'm so often let down by books (films...cd's...etc), because I overhype them in my mind before reading (watching...hearing...etc), them. I think it helped that he seems to have a lot of the same interests as me (cats, cats more cats, music country living!), lives in the same area of the country (was great being able to picture some of places mentioned), but the main reasons I enjoyed Under The Paw so much were the humour, the wonderful writing, of course the endless cat anecdotes! It's really nice to read a book written by someone who really loves his subject, comes across as a really decent human being. I'm going to give this book to at least 3 people for christmas can't recommend it enough!
