Ed is KINGA "friend"(?) bought me this film some years ago. It was my introduction to Ed Wood et al. Now what to say? It's wonderful - I never dreamed that such an appalling film could be made. The story-line is totally inane, the acting is worse, logic and continuity are non-existent - a night scene being shot in broad daylight (but the car, at least, has its headlights on!) and later a principal character constantly has her wig changed. Unsurpassable! And these are only 2 of the delights in store. The topless dancers are a bit boring but an intermittent "fast forward" gets past them - and I suppose some people like 'em. If you enjoy illogical, dreadful "B" films, and I do, this is an absolute must.

Take a lesser Ed Wood, Jr.script, add topless dancers, stirTo be fair, Ed Wood, Jr. only wrote the script for "Orgy of the Dead" (which was based on his "novel"), even if it offers an introduction from Crisswell. Actually, Crisswell is playing the Devil, Ruler of the Dark, Lord of the Dead or something like that. Apparently he judges the souls of the damned, who are all women dancing topless in a graveyard. On to this provocative conception of damnation wander Bob (William Bates) and Shirley (Pat Barrington), who had the misfortune of being in a car accident on their way to the cemetery where Bob was hoping to find inspiration for his writing. Offering comic relief are a Mummy and a Wolf Man, who offering commentary on the proceedings and snakes. That is not fair, because the topless dancing is pretty laughable The inane dialogue is the best part of the movie as well Bob and Shirley worry that they might end up for all eternity in the same grave. pDirector Stephen C. Apostolof's would easily be mistaken for Ed Wood, Jr. if not for all the non-erotic dancing (Wood would never let that much silence go by in one of his films. Bottom Line: Devotes of Ed Wood, Jr. have to check out "Orgy of the Dead" at some point in their survey of his work. Yes, you can see clips of it in documentaries from "Sleazemania" to "Ed Wood: Look Back in Angora," but if you are going to appreciate the man and his work, then sit through the entire thing once. I will tell you, however, that if this is the first Ed Wood, Jr. movie you ever see, it is going to be the last. Start with "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and work your way down.

Slightly disappointedI enjoy films that are 'quirky', so Edd Wood, who wrote the screenplay, is high on my list of favourite directors. brAny way, 'Orgy of the Dead' embodies many features that I like, poor continuity, shooting day for night and second rate actors.brThe 'story':- a 'young' couple after a car crash find themselves in a cemetary where Criswell and Ghoulita hold court. A number of rather plump topless young women dance around the cardboard set. There are a number of lackadaisical ghouls also in attendance.brOh dear, I see that I have given this film 3-stars, well I like topless girls and its all been a dream . . .

a masterpiece of erotic horror - notThis film shows Ed Wood in all his glory. His friend Criswell is the unconvincing evil star of the show; the acting is hilariously wooden; the script and photography rank with Plan Nine from Outer Space; and Ed truly excels when creating an "erotic" atmosphere. It begins with an author treating his "young" girlfriend to a midnight visit to a secluded graveyard. Unfortuately for them the, leader of the dead (Criswell) and his beautiful assistant (a Vampira lookalike) have risen, for a bizarre topless dance show. The two "youngsters" are captured by a Werewolf and Mummy!?!? and forced to watch a succession of topless dancers. I wouldn't like to spoil things by letting you know the outcome but to suffice is to say it is an Ed Wood classic. This film will keep you entertained for may viewings, and gives us another classic example of Ed refusing to accept defeat in his quest to make movies.
