Amazon.co.uk ReviewWhen it comes to kicking the gong around in an exuberant punk rock style there's really no-one operating in the same ballpark as the Vandals. The stunning six-string proficiency of Warren Fitzgerald allied to the on-the-button humour and vocal versatility of Dave Quackenbush is further accentuated by the preposterous precision of the watertight rhythm section. The end result is nothing short of post- Damned, nihilistic nirvana. IFear Of A Punk Planet/I carries onwards and upwards fromIHitler Bad, Vandals Good/I and finds the band ripping the proverbial out of widely divergent styles with massive aplomb. "The Rodge" is P-Funk without the "F", but boasting lashings of loose bootyied disco devices, "Hey Holmes!" is a biting metal parody perked up with astounding fretboard dexterity, and "Teenage Idol" expands on a long-forgotten Cramps lyric in a Buzzcocks-go-countrystyle. Elsewhere, meanwhile, the Vandals' singular take on the Beach Boys' "Kokomo" is way beyond essential. I--Ian Fortnam/I
From Amazon.comAs a rule, funny-punk doesn't age very well, but there's something about this Southern California act's self-mocking clowning that's let it stand the test of time. That probably has something to do with their decision to aim for the lowest-common-denominator wherever possible--via songs like "Girls Turn 18 Every Day" and "Pizza Train (She Delivers)." Sure, some younger fans will be scratching their heads as singer David Quackenbush invites them to "Join Us for Pong"--not to mention wondering who the heck special guest Moon Unit Zappa might be--but the gleeful three-chords-and-a-cloud-of-dust approach easily quashes any objections. Perfect for frat parties and beer blasts, providing no sensitive souls are within spitting distance. I--David Sprague/I
