Editorial reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Though this seminal comedy team is better known for authority-tweaking absurdist wordplay and surrealist visual hijinks, music has always been an essential element in the troupe's twisted universe. iMonty Python Sings/i collects 25 musical Python nuggets from the team's album catalogue, including such beloved ditties as "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", "Lumberjack Song", "I'm So Worried", "Spam Song", "Bruces' Philosophers' Song", "I Like Chinese", and "Knights of the Round Table". With so much Python music gathered in one place, it's impressive to note just how many of the sextet's musical excursions have become cult classics. i--Scott Schinder/i

A Must for all Python Fans
This album is better than I expected. It has a mixture of songs that are still heard, some that I have forgotten and some that I don't remember. What it does show is the brilliance of the Pythons and how completely bonkers they were.

Some things never change
I suppose I am making up for a lost youth as my parents were the types who did not approve of Monty Python so I was not allowed to watch them, which made it difficult for me to engage in playground discussions the following mornings. However now an adult I have made up for lost time and have numerous DVDs and books in relation to the Pyhton's. This cd is my latest addition to my collection and it is great to sing along to in the car, however I do have to skip some of the tracks when certain people are travelling with me. Its funny that many years after these songs were produced things have never really changed, how many people today are still worried bout the baggage system they have got at Heathrow! They are timeless classics.

Awesomely funny
Guaranteed to get you smiling regardless of the circumstances and the chances are you'll be singing one of these songs to yourself for hours after listening to it. A good range of moods in the songs but full of superb jokes and showcasing some genuine comedic and musical talent. br / br /Worth noting that the more risque songs are included in their entirety so may be an idea to avoid playing it in front of your elderly grandparents or in the background at children's parties.

Always Look on the Bright Side of Compilations
`Monty Python Sings' is a fantastic album collecting all the songs that populated the world of Python together in one place. It doesn't give a totally balanced view of the group with Eric Idle being the most musically versatile of the group, leading him into ventures such as The Rutles with Neil Innes of Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band fame. Again the balance is towards the eighties output of the Python's with the majority of songs from the Contractual Obligation album which included a great wealth of song writing and also the Meaning of Life soundtrack which as a movie conceived as a series of sketches relied on a number of set piece song and dance numbers. br / br /Obvious songs from the original Flying Circus are of course present, `The Lumberjack Song' and `Money Song' holding up very well but `Oliver Cromwell' would perhaps have benefitted from being shoe horned as a song. br / br /The Highlight of the album is, somewhat predictably, `Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' from `Life of Brian' and with support from `The Galaxy Song', `Not the Noel Coward Song' and `Eric the Half a Bee' make this a truly wonderful album. br /

a treat
I bought this CD because I liked the Python movies. I'm glad I did. There's so many exellent songs on this compilation, not just the best known ones. I could listen to them for hours. Always puts me in a good mood.
