Amazon.co.uk ReviewUp until this point in her career Janet Jackson had been the good little girl of the family Jackson. 1993's iJanet/i is where she gets all grown up and sexy--gone are the days of "Let's Wait a While", replaced instead by tracks chronicling the joys of being able to "boom boom boom until noon noon noon" ("Throb"). iJanet/i contains something for everyone, from the huge-scale epic "Back" (with orchestral and operatic backing!) to poppier offerings such as "That's the Way Love Goes" and "Because of Love"; from the mushy ballads which she does so well ("Again") to the dance grooves which have you picturing synchronised dance routines in your head ("You Want This", "If"); and she even has a vague stab at folk on "What'll I Do". Janet co-wrote and produced the entire album with long-time collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and it features a handful of hits, as well as even more of the between-song interludes of which she has always been so fond. This was the album that made Janet a superstar, and on it, you can hear why. i--Ronita Dutta/i

90's nostalgia and one of the most epic albums out theredefinately an iconic album in every respect, it contains songs that boast distinctive lyrics and a personal edge to the delivery of singing by Ms.Jackson.
br /boasting sales of over ten million worldwide thus far, this was one of her biggest selling and most successful.
br /her Brother changed his direction with the fabulous Dangerous in '91 and Madonna accomplished a raw and classic edge with her glorified album Erotica the folowing year, it was inevitable Janet was to do the same.
br /but the only difference here is that her sexual edge is not to cause controversy it is in fact part of her artistic image here.
br /it boasts a fantastically produced set of songs that flow into one another nicely and the best thig here is each are distinctively different.
br /Control was revolutionary, Rhythm Nation was raw and epic,Janet. is pure and sensual...together as a trilogy they are her best work showing the best period of the artists career yet.
br /this is a must have album that is pure RB and dance rock while also paving some of her most best ballads aswell.
br /this is raw and personal and one of the most greatest albums i have ever heard.
br /this is nothing but an amazing production by J. Jackson.

Proof that the 80s brings out the best in anyone average-until they switch decadesWhat a ferocious comedown after her absolute high-point-1989's Rhythm Nation 1814-admittedly there was one terrible song on it-the appallingly sickly, repetitive, overlong 'Love Will Never Do Without' but that still left 11 good songs-many of which were far more than good. Even her other notable album from 1986-Control-while far from great-didn't make you wanna halve its playing time. Apart from the charming and slinky 'That's The Way Love Goes' and silly but cute 'Whoops Now' (and why is she always singing about going on holiday? We know you're rich, love, you don't have to rub it in), this album is full of meandering, by-the-numbers bloodless nothings. The fast tracks don't so much naughty as silly and as for the overload of ballads-with none of them displaying the lovely slow classics of her two 80s albums, there is just no need for them. And the pretentious chatter between each songs is really the only thing hat keeps one awake, and even then, this is a repetitive gag she's now too in love with to drop. These interludes came into being on Rhythm Nation and suited it completely-and that is where they should have stayed. I can completely understand why barely any of these tracks feature on her greatest hits, which wisely floods the disc with everything from the Control and Rhythm Nation albums.
br /
br /The one exception on her hits album is the lovely song 'Runaway' which must have been done just for it. Good idea, seeing as this album could have done with it. Seriously this album is bad, yet not as bad as the other disaster out that year-the noxious Mariah Carey's Music Box. But now Jackson's musical overture is too much like hers and here is where it starts. In 1986 Janet Jackson mattered-not in Kim Wilde, Stevie Nicks or Kate Bush terms obviously, but she had something to say, and slickly produced JamLewis tunes to do it with. She even surpassed that with her 1989 masterpiece Rhythm Nation (excepting the one song mentioned).
br /
br /Sadly now, apart from 'That's The Way Love Goes' and 'Whoops Now' and the 'Runaway' song too good for the album, she does not matter at all, and every subsequent release carries on the proof. What an album to call completely after yourself! Unless you were always meant to get to this uninspired, production heavy, self-indulgent, lifeless phase. In which case you've succeeded. Unlike your album and the follow-ups can only be as bad as this at the best I fear!

Janet Jackson's best album of her careerJanet is without a doubt the most complete album for Janet Jackson - that's far to see it's perfect - but it has some great pop songs, some fine vocals at times and seems the most polished work of her catalogue.
br /
br /1/ That's the way love goes *****
br /The first single from the album that peaked at No.2 in the UK. This is a lovely melodic, pop track - sung sweetly and confidently. Great beat and vocals make this one of the album's best.
br /
br /2/ You want this ***
br /One of the later single releases from the album reaching No.14 in the UK. The track is a 'nice' tune, but nothing more.
br /
br /3/ This Time *****
br /Quite probably the best track Janet has recorded - this lasts almost 7 mins, but you never get bored of it. Well sung, great rhythm and some superb high-pitched notes throughout. Easily one of the best two tracks on the album.
br /
br /4/ If *****
br /The other exceptional track in my opinion - this requires great control to get the verses out, and the chorus has a wonderful hook. Clearly deserving far more than it's UK single peak of No.14.
br /
br /5/ Throb ***
br /This should be weaker than it is, given it's simplicity - but the rhythm ain't too shabby and it does get you moving. Obviously a filler, but not a terrible one surprisingly.
br /
br /6/ What'll I do ****
br /Light Rock, and quite a nice change of pace on the album - it reminds me of a slower 'Black Cat'. Released as an AA side with 'Whoops Now' in the UK reaching No.9. It got the lesser play, possibly unfairly so.
br /
br /7/ Funky Big Band **
br /Pretty duff track, but it's the weakest so far - meaning the first six must have been pretty good. I wouldn't skip it though, so it can't be that bad...
br /
br /8/ New Agenda *****
br /This one was screaming for a single release in my opinion and was far better than some of those chosen. This one has a great message and some strong lyrics. I don't even mind the rap bits which is rare for me!
br /
br /9/ Because of You *
br /The weakest track in my opinion - this is lovely-dovey fluff - and vocally Janet is poor judging on this track alone. Can't believe it got a single release - reaching the album's lowest of No.19.
br /
br /10/ Again ****
br /Possibly the album's best known song and it's easy to see why. This is beautiful ballad sung well. This is simple and Janet never attempts to ruin the song by resorting to the 'ballad screeching' of some.
br /
br /11/ Where are you now ***
br /Quite a nice track, but nothing exceptional.
br /
br /12/ The Body that loves you ****
br /This is a salsa ballad, which works well I think. Sung very sweetly again, Janet clearly knows she doesn't have the best voice - but can use it well in the right song - such as here.
br /
br /13/ Anytime, Anyplace ****
br /Another strong track, almost 6mins in length - this is quite similar to the previous track, but perhaps more sexier. Reaching No.13 in the UK, perhaps deserving more.
br /
br /14/ Whoops Now ***
br /A hidden/bonus track on some versions of the CD. Whoops Now went on to become quite a big hit for Janet after the success of this album and it's singles - reaching No.9. This is a fun track, but perhaps a bit too much fun for me.
br /
br /Overall, Janet's strongest offering in what I think is well over a 20 year career. Recommended listening - especially if you want to check out her work.

Janet Jackson - "Janet"This album was Janet's most popular of all her Virgin albums. Not only was it a big #1 in the US, followed by previous US #1 albums "Rhythm Nation" and "Control", but it was also Janet's only #1 album in the UK. This album includes a total number of six singles, two of which were US #1s and two that were top 10 hits in the UK. The hidden track "Whoops Now" was also a single tied with "What'll I Do" so there is really eight singles! Fourteen of the "songs" are interludes (oh dear) and only six are album tracks.pSome of my favourite tracks are "That's The Way Love Goes", "If", "This Time" and my personal favourite which I never skip "Again". The singles are "That's The Way Love Goes" (UK #2, US #1 for eight weeks), "If" (UK #14), "Again" (UK #6, US #1), "Because Of Love" (UK #19), "Any Time, Any Place" (UK #13), "You Want This" (UK #14) and "Whoops Now" (hidden) (UK #9) also tied with "What'll I Do" which is also very good. pOverall - 10/10pI think there are far too many interludes but some of them work excellently! Interludes like "Morning" and "Are You Still Up"... but I normally have a favourite Janet interlude for her albums and here I just don't! Overall, still very good and I'd reccommend it alot!
