From Amazon.comFew bands of the 1960s retained as much a sense of the roots of rock and roll as did Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their music is rife with country, rockabilly, and R&B influences, a combination that produced several hit singles--most of which are present on this collection. These include "I Heard It through the Grapevine," "Lodi," "Up Around the B ," "Who'll Stop the Rain," and of course "Bad Moon Rising." This is an excellent greatest-hits collection, and a perfect introduction to the music of a band that has been enduringly influential.

DescriptionGuided, perhaps, by musical snobbery or roots-rock phobia, some people inexplicably don't like Creedence Clearwater Revival. As the kings of earnest country-inflected rock in an age when radical stances were de rigueur, CCR sported straight-ahead tunes, and may have seemed a bit unhip. But their music stands the test of time with a vengeance. For the doubtful listener, this outstanding, 20-track hits collection has evidence of their greatness in staggering abundance.
Though they produced several excellent albums, Creedence was predominantly a singles band, and CHRONICLE compiles many of their biggest hits. From the slowly building saunter of "SuzieQ" and the spooky, R&B-soaked "I Put a Spell on You" to thefierce "Fortunate Son" and the swampy blues of "Run Throughthe Jungle", CHRONICLE features the ensemble's signature tunes. Beautifully melancholy songs "Who'll Stop the Rain" and"Someday Never Comes" play off sunny, melodic anthems "Downon the Corner" and "Lookin' Out My Back Door", fully revealing the band's wide range. The group's tight, no-frills musicianship leaves John Fogerty's keening voice and superb songwriting at the fore, and the results--brought together here on one of rock's best greatest-hits packages--make for some of the genre's most endearing and enduring music.

Not A Bad Chronicle Of A Countryish BandThis compilation covers all the 13 A side singles & 7 of their B sides during or after their period. The music is a mix of Country, Rhythm & Blues & Rock & Roll with a dash of Hard Rock thrown it & the Country Funk "Down On The Corner". The reason I'm giving this 3 stars is the fact that I'm not that into Country Music which nearly half the selection sounds like on here. My other gripe is that not all the B sides are here. Then again this got released on vinyl in 1976. On the other hand with CD technology (80 mins) they could of re-released it to include all the B sides. If you are curious about this band (like I was) I recommend this as a starting point. If you are a Countryish fan you can add to more stars to mine.

Brilliant Bluesy RockI just bought this CD because I wanted the song 'Bad Moon Rising' which I originally heard on the soundtrack to 'An American Werewolf in London,' one of my all time favourite films. I have loved this song ever since I first saw the film as a kid but never actually owned it myself. When listening to the rest of the CD in the car I realised how familiar I was with a lot of CCR music and how brilliant they actually were.
I don't know a huge amount about the history of rock music but it sounds to me like Elvis, Hendrix and the Doors all rolled into one bluesy rock n' roll band. 'Put a Spell On You' is a great cover of a Screamin' Jay Hawkins song, done justice by Fogerty's snarling vocals. 'Bad Moon Rising' is a perfect rock n' roll number, as is 'Fortunate Son' which sounds like an anti-Vietnam anthem (it was used on the 'Forrest Gump' soundtrack for when he arrives in Vietnam). The band also cover Marvin Gayes classic 'Heard it Through the Grapevine' in an 11 minute jamming session which sounds fantastic. In short every song on this album is a gem and Creedence Clearwater Revival are more influential on modern rock bands than people give them credit for. Buy this album, you won't be disappointed.

greatI was born in the early 60,s but I still love this music. Maybe that,s why my husband still puts up with me as a pillion motorbike rider. (As the cd was bought for him, yes, he loved it).

AwesomeUnless you're a hardened CCR fan this is probably the only record you need. The music is brilliant and, unlike a lot of rock music, also deeply moving. Like the very best bands, Creedence are inspired by the past but manage to create a sound and style that's very much their own. The lyrics reflect troubled times, with references to Vietnam, and the music is an updated version of classic blues, soul and rock and roll. The music bounces along and doesn't outstay it's welcome and it's all sung with great passion. Hard to pick the best but the swaggering Green River, bouncing Bad Moon Rising, and poignant Looking out of my Back Door and Who'll Stop the Rain are superlative.

A MUST BUY CD!What can I say about this CD, other than that it's absolutely great. CCR is such a great band and they made dozens of instant classics. These are collected on this CD and on the CCR Chronicle Vol. 2 CD. Both should be a part of any music fan's collection. You won't skip through any of the tracks, not on this CD nor the other. I can recommend every song, such as Suzie Q, I Put a Spell on You, Travellin Band, Down on the Corner, Up Around the Bend, I Heard It Through The Grapevine. Buy this NOW! But don't forget to buy Vol. 2 too, which includes among others Good Golly Miss Molly and Midnight Special. A total of 20+20=40 songs. With these two CD's you will have one of the best CCR collections available. Perfect as an introduction to CCR, but also die-hard CCR fans will love this compilation. Highly recommended!
