A great group, a terrific album
Now without trying to sound big or clever, I am a big fan of Rudimentary PEni, and this album is most commonly addressed or put across as their greatest, while I agree it fully deseves 4/5 stars, its a little different from their other work, let me elaborate.

Their two earlier eps, the Rudimentary Peni ep and the Farce ep are fast paced and contain some of my favourite tracks, this album comes after these two and is still in the same vein, however the riffs are slower, and the lyrics still as sharp as a knife and as hard hitting as a hammer (resulting in a knifammer), partly due to the lead singer (Nick Blinko) and also due to the music of the songs which greatly contrasts this.
Their next outing was the truly crazy and one of the strangest, and most phenomenally brilliant punk albums of all time, and my favourite album of all time, Cacophony. And this is the crux of my whole review, this album is a transition from one of their brilliant extremes to the other, and the slower riffs really detract from the brutal quality that elevated the earlier eps to greatness, the track "The Gardener" was the precursor to this album and shows their stylistic progression.

My advice is, you could get this as it is very good, but in my opinion the earlier eps, now a collection called "The EPs of RP" contains the bursts of noise that made them one of my favourite groups. Or if you want, buy Cacophony, which is their greatest album in my opinion and essential for any fan of fast, odd, quirky and distinctly obscure yet igniting music.

Punk Masterpeice
When i first heard this album it was like nothing i'd heard before, and that still stands today. It's hardcore punk with a 'goth' feel that didn't really exist when this was recorded, somewhere between Crass and Souxie and the Banshee's. After not hearing it for 10 years, it still sounds unique and impressive.

The lyrics are intelligent agit-prop and all the more impressive considering how young they were at the time of recording. This is one of my all time favrouite punk albums and i wouldn't be without it again. It's a shame you don't get the big fold-out cover with the cd that you got with the vinyl LP though, but that's my only gripe with it.

They have an awsome sound - must be heard to be believed.
