SuperbLet me just start off by saying that Basia is my favourite singer so this review is biased. However, the is CD is fabulous. Basia was (and is again) the girl singer in Matt Bianco and this is her first solo album. Much of it is in a similar vein - New Day for You and How Dare You could have come straight from a MB album - but most of it is gentle jazz/samba. Occasionally she comes out of the genre - Time Tide, Miles Away and Forgive and Forget - and these are among the best tracks, showing a real versatility in her voice. The production is crystal clear and it is difficult to tell where the electronic instruments and the real ones overlap. The musicianship and programming are exceptional too. Despite being over 15 years old, this still sounds great. If you liked Matt Bianco - or even Astrud Gilberto - give it a go. It's brilliant.

What a voiceOK, the lyrics are naive and inept, musically pretty much what you'd expect from anything Matt Bianco'ish. BUT what a voice. I could listen to "Time and Tide" for years.

An eighties classicLooking through my record collection a while ago, I came across this album on tape. I thought I couldn't justify having what was probably one of the best albums by a female vocalist in the 80s on tape alone, so I decided to buy the CD. pBasia has an incredible voice, perfect pitch and range, and a very attractive Polish accent to boot. Not only this, the lyrics on this album are excellent, bearing in mind English is not Basia's native language. She has a real gift for story telling, and a real gift for finding the right melody or vocal expression at exactly the right moment. The musicianship is truly outstanding; incredible use of rhythm and brass, which always captures the moment. It's a truly great pop-dance-jazz album. There are some outstanding tracks; 'Run for Cover', 'Time and Tide' and 'New Day for You' are my favourites, which for me capture a time in my mid teens when Basia, among others, played on the soundtrack. Sixteen years later I'm still listening to her.

And so the tide turns........A name not to forget......from her early days with Matt Bianco, Basia has come a long way both musically and vocally. This, her first solo release finds us drifting along to those wonderful vocal harmonies of hers ("Astrud" "Miles Away"), and also her excellent blend of Latin/Jazz influences ("Prime Time TV"). The opening track is "Promises" which is a good insight of what to expect from the rest of the album. Basia has that certain quality to her voice in a similar vein that might be found by artists such as Julia Fordham. Basia can change her vocal range with the greatest of ease, which stands out in the title track "Time Tide".brBeautiful,melodic,dancey,ballady....it's all in there on this album.
