Editorial reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Considered by many to be the Material Girl's most mature effort of the 1980s, iLike a Prayer/i upped the ante of controversy with its gospel-infused title track and the singer's emotional confessions throughout. It also unveiled the hit "Express Yourself", which ushered in the era of Madonna as a "stainless steel sexual icon". Musically, iPrayer/i showcased her burgeoning songwriting prowess, with the beautiful "Oh Father" and the perky pop of "Cherish". Besides a throw-away collaboration with Prince ("This Is Not a Love Song"), the album stands as one of her strongest works, eschewing the strong dance beat influences from her past--she saved that for the remixes--and concentrating instead on melody and structure. iLike a Prayer/i also gave a hint of things to come with the delightful "Dear Jessie" displaying a maternal side worthy of her name. --iSteve Gdula/i

Madonna-Like A Prayer
I suppose this is one of those albums that everyone remembers, what with the title track being a global triumph. br /There are a lot of tracks on it that I absolutely love, and that I constantly play over and over. However, I have given it four stars rather than five (for the same reasons as my review for 'True Blue') because there are some songs that I find to be unnecessary, which could have been replaced with much better songs, like the 'Supernatural' b-side on the 'Cherish' single. br /That is it though, that one little exception that makes this album not be perfect for me, but otherwise, I think it is an incredible masterpiece. I can definately understand why so many people would call it their favourite Madonna album, although it's not mine. br / br /My personal ratings: br / br /Like A Prayer - 5/5 br /Express Yourself - 5/5 br /Love Song - 1/5 br /Till Death Do Us Part - 3/5 br /Promise To Try - 4/5 br /Cherish - 4/5 br /Dear Jessie - 3/5 br /Oh Father - 4/5 br /Keep It Together - 5/5 br /Pray For Spanish Eyes - 4/5 br /Act Of Contrition - 1/5

Good album, dreadful sound
The remastering of Madonna's older albums seems to have stopped after True Blue. Like A Prayer has many great tracks, Pray For Spanish Eyes and Dear Jessie being favourites of mine. But the CD sounds tinny and dreadful. Could someone please tell us whether Warner Bros plan to remaster more of Madonna's albums? This would be a great starting point.

Dear Jesse
i just got to hear Dear Jesse, but immediately fell in love with it! Why didn't they release this in the US? Stupid if you ask me...OWELL! Got some info about the origin of the song...Madonna wrote this with Patrick Leonard, who collaborated with her on several of her '80s hits. The song is a Pop lullaby which displays Madonna's maternal side. It was written for Patrick Leonard's daughter, Jessie.
