Originally, Anne had no particular theme in mind but she found that a lot of her favorite songs dated from the fifties so she decided to focus exclusively on that decade, although you will notice that she has (at least on this album) largely ignored the rock'n'roll revolution, though she has included Born to be with you (Chordettes).pThus, the album features covers of classic songs by such great singers as Patti Page (Old Cape Cod, Allegheny moon), Gogi Grant (Wayward wind), Peggy Lee (Fever), Doris Day (Secret love), Jo Stafford (You belong to me, Make love to me), Julie London (Cry me a river), Rosemary Clooney (Hey there), De Castro sisters (Teach me tonight), Eddy Arnold (I really don't want to know (Eddy Arnold) and Perry Como (Wanted). Also here is When I fall in love, which was originally an American hit for Doris Day but which has since become a bigger hit for other artists in different countries.pTrue love (originally by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly) features Anne singing with the album's producer. Apparently, Anne originally asked Elton John if he'd like to sing with her but he said he didn't have time. Within a few months, he'd recorded the song with Kiki Dee and they had an international hit with it.pAnne's performances on all these songs are brilliant. If you buy the album because you enjoy Anne's music, you may discover a whole new world of fifties songs that you didn't know about. And if you buy it because of the songs, you'll discover what a fantastic singer Anne is.
