Editorial reviews
Amazon.co.uk ReviewThey still had plenty of covers to fill out the running time, but the Lennon-McCartney writing team was gathering steam and beginning to knock out pop classics as if they were pulling them out of thin air. "All My Loving" and "I Wanna Be your Man" come from this record, issued hurriedly to capitalise on Beatlemania. But even when they were laying into some classic Chuck Berry, by this time the Beatles had acquired a unique sound in the blend of John's and Paul's voices, while George was coming on by leaps and bounds as a guitar player. While not absolutely essential, as a snapshot of a band in a place and time, iWith the Beatles/i is good for a smile. i--Chris Nickson/i

Love ItSome great classic Beatles tracks on here like 'It Won't Be Long', 'All My Loving' and 'I Wanna be Your Man' as well as some excellent covers which they made their own like 'Money' and 'Please Mister Postman'. I Only gave it 4 stars because it's not up with the Beatles best albums like 'Sgt Pepper', 'Revolver', 'Rubber Soul', 'Help' and the 'White Album'.

GREAT SECOND ALBUM!!!Recorded and produced only four months after PLEASE PLEASE ME, this is an example of what a powerful guys the Beatles were; with seven LENNON-McCARTNEY compositions, the first GEORGE HARRISON number (DON'T BOTHER ME, a nice tune), and six excellent covers (some of them better than the originals like DEVIL IN HER HEART and PLEASE MISTER POSTMAN), this album marks the tremendous effect of BEATLEMANIA; great songs like ALL MY LOVING, LITTLE CHILD and ALL I'VE GOT TO DO; beautiful ballads like TILL THERE WAS YOU and YOU REALLY GOT A HOLD ON ME, a number for Ringo (I WANNA BE YOUR MAN, great!) and much elaborated compositions like NOT A SECOND TIME... and this was only the beginning!!

Tight as a drum...like Berlin but in the studio...Highlight song-wise: 'All My Loving'. The other songs are of their time, nearly 45 years old, but do not show their age. The vibrancy of the delivery and the passion of Ringo's drumming speeds this into its hallowed place in the Beatles' massive oeuvre. I love the cover design, which in some respects owes much to Stuart Sutcliffe's memory as much as anything else.

the beatles WITHout THE best BEATLES songs...In my opinion this album is The Beatles' weakest album. At the end of the day, there's not much between the 'best' and the 'weakest', but there has to be one, and I would say this one is it!
br /
br /Alot of people say With The Beatles is a step up from Please Please Me, but I would say its more of the same, and more of a step sideways. I'll explain... Once again, as with Please Please Me, the album begins with a quick tempo upbeat song, 'It Won't Be Long'. Considering it is only the bands second album, it is a very good self-written opening track. Apart from this one, and 'All My Loving', which is by far the most famous Beatles song on this particular album, the other Lennon-McCartney songs on here are quite weak, and it is due to the fact that there are just so many weak songs in one place that I have to put this album at the bottom of the pile. Don't get me wrong, none of the songs are horrid and unlistenable. But, when you put the whole Beatles songs in perspective, I can't imagine the ones from this album being near the top, apart from maybe at least one of the two I have mentioned above.

br /This album sees the first George Harrison composition - which fits well into the style of the album and is cleverley written, and it certainly shows the potential of the young guitar player.
br /
br /The covers that the Beatles choose on this album are different to the covers chosen on Please Please Me. I believe that the songs on Please Please Me were the songs that the band played live before they were signed up, but the songs here would seem to lean more towards songs they could play in television or radio studios - such as various BBC programmes, and the Royal Variety Performance. Its almost as if they are appealing to the older generation with the chosen covers on this album, which isn't necessarily a bad thing - there are some great songs, that are well played here - such as 'Tll There Was You' and 'Roll Over Beethoven', but there are some which just don't really do the Beatles any favours or any justice in terms of their music-playing skills - such as 'Devil In Her Heart' and 'Money'.
br /
br /Although I only rate this album 3 stars, and even though I have said it is an album which contains the largest number of weak Beatles songs, it is still an album which one can listen to straight through, without having to skip any songs. But then, that, I guess, is down to personal choice.

br /In my opinion:
br /Best Song = "Till There Was You"
br /Weakest Song = "Money".
