Her operatically trained five-octave instrument was the very model of beauty and control. Consequently, her signature tune, "Lovin' You", is likely the breeziest bit of pop you may ever hear. In addition to her own songs, Riperton also makes light work of material as lovely and strong as Stevie Wonder's "Perfect Angel" and Joni Mitchell's "Woman of Heart and Mind". The only misstep on this collection, in fact, is yet another unnecessary take of the Doors' "Light My Fire". i--Michael Ruby/i
Mum and Dad had this album when i was a nipper. I fell in love with it instantly and still remember the songs vividly 25 years later! I've not heard the album for too long and would like to get hold of it. Minnie's voice is so sweet, accurate and totally makes your hair stand on end. Maria Carey eat your heart out! brMost of the songs are about love and. If you've ever been in love you'll understand exactly where this lady's comin from ! : D
I think it is sad when the majority of people I talk to only remember Minnie for 'loving you.'brThis album really demonstrates the full depth and range that Minnie has to offer. If you like quality vocals coupled with slick productions this album is for you. The album boasts some really good two step classics like the Stevie Wonder written 'Perfect Angel'. This is featured alongside a fabulous version of the Jeane Carne classic 'Memory Lane' on which the production is about as tight as it gets.pFor those of you who are trainspotters look out for 'Inside My Love' recently sampled by Jean Jacques Smoothie, and finishing of the album an eclectic version of the Doors 'Light My Fire' with guest vocals by Jose Feliciano.brIf you like your soul music with a dash of funk this album is a must for you.
