Editorial reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
There's the requisite number of gorgeously melodic and deeply heartfelt songs in Sarah McLachlan's Surfacing--the addictive "Sweet Surrender", the Hollywood-style ballad "I Love You", the sad, profound "Angel", the flat-out spectacular "Witness". McLachlan's not prolific, but this short, bittersweet album proves again that what she and producer Pierre Marchand do release is cut from the finest cloth. --Jeff Bateman

Amazing everytime you listen
I have owned this CD for over 5 years. I never tire of it and the songs take on different meanings every time I listen. The most penetrating voice i've ever heard and was lucky enough to hear in the flesh a couple of years ago in London. You can't go wrong with this album. Absolutely breath taking

Possibly Mclachlan's best.
'Surfacing' and 'Fumbling towards Ecstacy' are considered McLachlan's best albums and although the latter had beautiful lyrics and melodies, I consider 'Surfacing' better.

Songs like 'Building a mystery', 'Sweet Surrender' and 'Adia' have soft quitar tunes, still stay in memory, and their nostalgic ambience follows you from time to time even when you don't listen to the cd. McLachlan also has quite a unique voice and she knows how to use it.

In short, this is an album from a real musician. Undoubtedly, the best acoustic/soft rock comes from Canada and Europe.

Painfully beautiful

I absolutely admire all the tracks in this CD. They are flawless. However, I find them too painful sometimes - each song touches your very core.

You don't come across a CD like this often.

Utterly Beautiful...
First heard Sarah Mclachlan on Buffy the vampire slayer, (the song Full of Grace) and immediately fell in love. This was later followed by discovering she sang the piano ballad on toy story two and that the soul wrenching music was definitely something to investigate further. Bought this album and it hasn't left the CD player since, only complaint is it's too short... More next time please!
Favourite songs include 'Do What You Have To Do' and 'Black and White'.
Listen to all these recommendations, she's fantastic!

Amazing
Since first hearing Sarah McLachlan's music a few years ago, I have been totally hooked. Its the sort of stuff you can never get tired of. Surfacing in particular is a fantastic album with its mixture of varying song tempo's. Favourite songs are "Full Of Grace" and "I Love You" - beautiful words that make exceptional songs
