Amazon.co.uk Review
This subtle, sublime collaboration finds bassist Charlie Haden and guitarist Pat Metheny crafting bejewelled chamber duets that transcend genre. With their shared Missouri lineage as a thematic touchstone, Haden and Metheny forge a lyrical, mostly acoustic style at once intimate and expansive. Both pare their playing to a Zen-like economy, focusing on a purity of tone, clarity of harmony, and counterpoint to achieve a tender lyricism. p Metheny's acoustic steel-string and classical guitars predominate, but he also applies discreet overdubs (including some delicate synthesizer and keyboard textures) to sculpt orchestral detail. Haden, as always, is both a generous foil and a deft melodist on his own, moving easily into his instrument's upper register as he twines through Metheny's lines. The set's emotional coherence is particularly satisfying in light of the material, which spans Ennio Morricone ("Cinema Paradiso"), Henry Mancini ("Two for the Road"), Jim Webb ("The Moon is a Harsh Mistress"), and Roy Acuff ("The Precious Jewel") as well as affecting originals by both leaders. And giving the project a sense of closure, while commenting obliquely on the generational dialogue it represents, is the luminous "Spiritual" (composed by Haden's son, Josh), an instrumental prayer that exemplifies the balance of concision and deep emotion at the heart of this exquisite triumph. i--Sam Sutherland /i

Just great
Metheny and Charlie Haden have been friend decades before the release of this project, which is actually their first duet album together. Since both of them are from some Missouri small towns, which explains the title of the album, they are most probably sharing quite similar warm feelings about their childhood, which you can feel when listening to the album. Metheny is impeccable and brings up completely acoustic guitar sound, Haden, of course, also plays in a perfect manner and the result is one great and deeply lyrical album. br /In brief, If you are enjoying the lyrical, deep and a bit nostalgic sound that makes you dive deep into the blue, you will find this album to be a great acquisition for you

Excellent unforced musicality
Metheny/Haden have quietly created a mini classic here. The album is highly musical, played in an unforced manner with beautiful interaction and play off of musical ideas. The players listen to each other well and respond with articulate conversation via their instruments. The choice of songs is well programmed and perfectly played. This is an album that rewards repeated listening and it is wonderfully recorded to boot. br / br /Highly recommended.

Irresistible
Irresistible, indeed, and I did try to resist. The soundscapes invoked by Haden and Metheny (the latter occasionally using synthesizers, which I usually resent), clearly border on easy listening. Everybody likes this kind of stuff. Everybody! Something in me resented the easiness, the all-round accessibility at the start. This was somewhat too polished! Or was it? br /I kept coming back to this album. The melodies are immediately catchy, and yet have a timeless feel to them. Almost like lullabies handed down through generations. In the end I simply fell in love with the relaxed, half-dreaming, somehow benevolent mood of the album. br /This is music beyond genre. In fact, just listening to this CD I'd assume it were an ECM release, which it isn't. I am not quite sure what to call this music, but whatever it is, nobody has ever done it better. Simply gorgeous! br /

ace
This is one of the most chilled but moving albums ever. It is a perfect antidote to the stresses of existence and is a perfect counterpart to metheny's recent solo album 'one quiet night'. Pat was quoted recently saying that he is searching for something higher. This is it.
