Binding : Audio CDEAN : 4007192595099Label : Euro ParrotManufacturer : Euro ParrotPublisher : Euro ParrotRelease date : 2000-01-17Title : Ready for RomanceFormat : ImportOriginal release date : 1986-01-01Studio : Euro ParrotNumber of discs : 1 Modern Talking made loads of thrilling albeit totally generic records (and this comes from a man who also falls at the sonic feet of Sigur Ros, Godspeed Y!BE, Coil and Brel, so sneer ye not) and this one is definitely their best "album" (I'm not 35, I'm not), although don't get me onto the uber-greatness of "Charlene" on "Romantic Warriors" with the lovely My Little Pony cover "art", otherwise death by boredom will be thine. Basically on this one we have the quiveringly good intro to "Only Love Can...", "Atlantis Is Calling" (again with a rather great intro, actually) which is basically fantastic, and then there's "Just We Two", which is all lovely glacial euro and... oh, whatever. All you need to know is that Dieter Bohlen (for he is the responsible party) was a star in my firmament for many a long year of deluding myself about the nature of love and life and trotting down to HMV on Oxford Street (when there was only one branch) to seek out the latest cassette on Hansa import. I also recommend CC Catch's "Cause You Are Young" (maxi-version, obviously) (and "Strangers By Night", actually) and Blue System's superlative "Love Suite '89", both clearly thrown together in three seconds by Der Bohlen yet models of genius. Oh dear, nearly forgot to mention "You're My Heart, You're My Soul". Now there's a total classic. And I give this to you with no irony whatsoever. Buy them and curse me / love me (delete as applicable)...
Modern Talking had an incredible story of success in the mid-eighties in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. Perhaps the poor English lyrics could only prevent them from being No.1 in the UK. The good old German Schlager music with the best eurobeat sound forms a unique composition. Singles like Brother Louie or Atlantis Is Calling are known in Britain as well, Brother Louie was No.4 on the UK charts in September 1986. This album is undoubtfully the best of their career. If you like euro-pop, you have to buy it.
