A cross between Chuck Berry and George Clinton
Johnny Guitar Watson used to play a lot of up-beat blues in the '50s and '60s, and had quite a few minor r'n'b chart hits in the process. He had a similar stage persona to Chuck Berry, but was sufficiently talented to avoid accusations of being a mere clone.br As the music scene moved on and tastes changed, so did Johnny; he'd always been a sharp dresser with an even sharper sense of humour but it wasn't until the early 1970's that he turned to the funk, and let them come to the fore in his music. pHe had a really 'hard-plucked' sound to his guitar playing, and a George Clinton-esque sense of humour that touches very lighly on socio-political subjects at times (see 'Ain't that a Bitch').pHis voice had a distinctive southern drawl that makes it instantly recognisable, and his songs tend to have sections where he speaks some of the lyrics.pThis album was made in 1976, and is one of the better ones - I'd recommend this as a good introduction, but 'Love Jones' is probably his classic.pFailing that, the compilation is good value for money...

The Bees
Just the sweetest album. With a 70's vibe. This is an album fans of funky soulful tunes will love. 'Superman Lover' has to be the Jewel in this sparkling crown. If only we could have some more !!!?!!!

he's a bad maa faa
Surely one of the best album covers ever printed. Slip the disc out of the sleeve and the music does not disappoint either. Brassy, funky pimp tunes for cruisin' in the Caddy before making that last deal and leaving the streets forever with a million in a briefcase.
