Vintage Techno classic from a bye-gone age...Ah Jochem Paap....
br /
br /Creator of two classic Warp IDM albums in the mid nineties. A truly gifted electronic musician...
br /
br /This is (yet again) a sublime album, full of moody, tight and intelligent techno which would grace any genre lover's collection. Between this and Ginger, Paap really did a service to Warp, IDM and electronica fans in general and it's a shame his other non-Warp releases proceeded to get darker, heavier and more sporadic...

br /Every single track is just fabulous 'AI' style IDM Techno and the album improves upon Ginger in it's depth, programming, compexity and thought provoking content. Paap is one of the few artists who embody what IDM should be, perfectly at home on the dancefloor or in your living room... Kind of a thinking man's clubbing album...
br /
br /At his peak here, he is virtually without equal. But, do shop around on download sites like Warp's Bleep, as the culturally bankrupt among us do tend to inflate this and it's older sibling 'Ginger' for profit...

br /A work of genius...

An Unsung ClassicI was lucky enough to by this album on vinyl in 1995 almost as soon as it had been released Warp.pHaving really enjoyed the music from the likes of Black Dog and Aphex Twin I was interested to know more about the works of Speedy J as he had contributed a particularly outstanding track to Warp's excellent Artificial Intelligence vol 1 complilation. When I bought G-Spot, I couldn't help being somewhat dumbfounded and a little awestruck by its' brilliance. pInitially I noticed the album was alot more upbeat and direct than 'Ginger', his debut album on Warp, but on further listening, was still as diverse and interesting, warm yet coldy electronic as its' predecessor. It was more progressive, and more considered, constantly inventive, ploughing subtle 303 acid textures into the melody and building really beautifully crafted ambience to the whole soundtrack. pI listen to this album even now 6 years later and would rate 'Ping Pong' and 'The Oil Zone' as the best tracks, but this is a real listening 'album' which needs attention to from start to finish. There's no duffers here. pThis is on a par with Aphex Twin's selected Ambient works which I would thoroughly recommend even though nowadays you are likely to associate this type of music as a background for chopping coriander and recipe summaries on 'Gary Rhodes' or something!!! Which is all a bit tragic really.
