A wonderful era for Electronic Music - Revisited!Like me, I suspect Mark Shreeve was deeply influenced by the wonderful albums from Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze recorded during the early to mid seventies. Sadly, this era passed all too quickly for me as newer. more compact hardware became available and the long experimental pieces gave way to shorter (in TD's case), more "composed" pieces with very different sounds.

br /This Redshift release, now re-released if you know where to look, is the first of many featuring a restored Moog Modular synth and the juicy, powerful sequences and tonalities it creates are quite mindblowing to me, along with the more "conventional" electronic sounds used. MS (joined by others on subsequent releases) is able to make the sequencers almost live and breathe (and he gets even better on the subsequent Redshift releases mostly recorded "live."). Some have felt that many of the tracks here are a bit "me too," but I don't feel that way and find I can play this alongside the awsome favourites that obviously influenced it.

br /There are definite influences here, from Tangerine Dream's mighty "Rubycon" and the beautiful "Mirage" by Klaus Schulze, but there's something more that Mark Shreeve has added to mke it individual in its own right. Subsequent releases have seen a darker side to the Big Moog's repertior too, but this one pays a huge homage to the German acts who almost created this style of sequenced, spacey music single handed.

br /If you love the Tangerine Dream releases from the mid seventies, alongside a decent helping of Klaus Schulze (and Ed Buller's "Node") then I recommend you track down a copy of this and subsequent releases, which gradually got darker and more sinister in tone as the years go on.
