Genius
When it comes to funk everyone knows about James Brown, George Clinton, P-Funk etc.pThe idiosyncratic career of Johnny Guitar Watson went from straight ahead blues in the 50s to over-commercial pop-disco in the 80s, however between these two phases he turned out some of the greatest funk albums ever. This more than anything else is where his genius lies. For a few years in the 70s he was that Dr John of the funk world who out-Bootsied Bootsy Collins in flamboyance whilst spitting out some of the tightest funk in existence.pThis record is one in a series of masterpieces rendered more amazing when you consider that on many tracks he played all instruments, wrote the song and produced.pAlong with the Meters this guy is one of the unsung greats.
