An introductory drum roll drops out and is replaced by a single suspended electric guitar, which is then paralleled by a snare, filled in with the bass, and--crash!--"Cherub Rock", the opening track, is enveloped in an explosion of metal guitar. So the journey begins. This album is pre-experimentation vintage Pumpkins. Produced by Butch Vig (Garbage, Sonic Youth, Nirvana's INevermind/I), ISiamese Dream/I is first about guitars. Lots and lots of guitars. A very close second is Jimmy Chamberlain's unquestionably excellent power drumming. Throughout each song, Billy Corgan delivers angsty lyrics in his signature breathy whine. "Disarm" is a nice intermission halfway though the album. As the title of the song suggests, it throws the listener into a different mood with its full string arrangements and radiant orchestral chimes. But then it is back to the aural masochism--a pain that rarely sounds so sweet. --IBeth Bessmer/I

What the fuss is all about.
Guitar fuelled, this album is Pure 90's Rock. Post Grunge Golliaths, Smashing Pumpkins, dont dissapoint with this epic album. br / br /Cherub Rock, Today, Geek USA are my highlights of this album, as having heard them play these songs, you cant exagerate the pure energy this band inject into their songs. This is really noticable on this album. I recommend listening to this band Very Loud, with bass on full, as without doubt, this is how it was meant to be listened. br / br /Not too long, and not too pretencious, just pure Heavy hook filled rock

In a league of it's own.
I'll keep this short as everyone else seems to sum this album up. It is one of the best albums ever made. It is unique. I bought this about 12 years ago and still can listen to it all the way through. whilst I do like the Smashing Pumpkins, I am not a massive fan but out of all their albums, this is the one to get followed the Mellon Collie the Infinite Sadness. There is such a range of different sounds and styles on this album and will have you putting some tracks on repeat.

One of the greatest albums ever.
I first heard this album in 2000 when my friend let me borrow it and ever since then the pumpkins have been my favourite band. It's an incredible album and every track is brilliant, no filler tracks at all. This is a must have for all alternative rock fans.

By far their best album. The only one which you MUST own. Innovative and spectacular. Billy Corgan is a genius!

Classic
I brought this album on cassette back around 1994...always remember being blown away by it back then as it just sounded so different from anything else I'd heard at the time. br / br /Few years on and I brought it on CD as the tape was well worn out! Sounds just as good now and lives in my CD player pretty much all the time. Being a drummer I'd say that Chamberlin's sound/drum work really stands out for me on the album, shame it's quite complicated to play! br / br /An essential album if your into 90s rock....definately up there with Nevermind
