"Bed of Nails" would have been a better title for this romance, an excruciating exercise that brings out all the worst in the genre. Christian Slater's performance is the high point of this flick, but his character is so obvious that even his subtle skills ultimately makes little difference. Slater plays Lewis, a florist who looks up one night during one of his habitual nocturnal walks and spies Mary Stuart Masterson weeping in a window. The next day he follows her to work and delivers a gorgeous arrangement of posies, leaving her guessing as to the identity of her secret admirer. We must wonder why Lewis pursues her with abandon, as Masterson's character Lisa seems nothing but a dull workaholic. Well, okay, she's also neurotic. First-time director-writer Michael Goldenberg's lopsided script lets us see the psychic damage harboured by both of the main characters but doesn't make Lisa interesting enough to warrant all the attention heaped upon her, whereas Lewis is a model of perfection. Goldenberg often slips and slides over many details in the story. Since the dialogue is not particularly witty or meaningful, and the plot has pretty much withered by the second reel, there isn't much left on the screen to enjoy. I--Rochelle O'Gorman/I

It impossible to buy a region 2 dvd of 'Bed of Roses'
I love this film, its so romanitc, and just a lovely film to watch, I have worn out my video of this film, and would very much like to buy a Region 2 dvd of this film but I am finding it impossible to buy a copy of it anywhere. Can anyone out there advise or help ? br /annette

Not as romantic as I thought it was going to be
I just watched this purely because of the high reviews it's got on here. I'm left feeling a little deflated though as there wasn't half as much romance as I thought there would be. br / br /The two leads are well cast, (Christian Slater and Mary Stuart Masterson), but I didn't quite believe that they fell in love the way they did. It all seemed a little too convenient and Slater was a little too sickly sweet for my liking. The scene where she goes to him with a bunch of flowers had me not reaching for the kleenex but the remote control to see how much time was left. br / br /I'm not saying it's a bad film, I'm just saying that I think you should watch this with an open mind and not listen to these reviews too hard, including mine! All in all I think it's an average romance with some good performances but nothing to blow big snot bubbles over!

Great Movie more you watch it
At first I did not enjoy it as was waiting for the Bed of Roses song from Bon Jovi that never happened. Watching it again in a quiet surrounding and concentrating shows just how great it is. br / br /The cast is superb the ever watchable and lovely Masterson and the very versatile Slater make a perfect pair. br / br /The film involves a florist delivering flowers to a girl he has only ever seen through a window who he falls in love with. Basically thats the story and they get deeper and deeper involved until Slater invites Masterson to a Christmas family reunion and as Masterson was a child who was dumped at an airport and has no family and does not even know her own birthday she is quite understandably upset. Slater eventually manages to talk her around and the film ends happy. br / br /The film is saved from the initial temptation of slush and is a very enjoyable watch.

Very Romantic
This is a really great chick flick and only for romantics. I really enjoyed this film and thought Christian Slater is the perfect guy. br / br /I would highly recommend this to anyone.

wonderful romance
I have read the above reviews and am appalled at people’s lack of romantic notion and pessimism. This was a wonderful love story, with Christian Slayter recapturing his 'Untamed Heart' romance and sex appeal. Although the plot is obviously sloppy, the film fully represents its genre, which is pure unadulterated romance and love. Slayter and Masterton have excellent chemistry and this film reduced me to soppy tears. Very enjoyable for us true romantics out there.
