Editorial reviews
Amazon.co.uk ReviewQueen brought a whole new meaning to the phrase over the top. While rock & roll flamboyance stretched back at least as far as Little Richard, Freddie Mercury continued to camp it up, taking little seriously and smirking at the music's growing pretensions while partaking in them no small bit. Many of the band's singles hold up extremely well, such as "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Killer Queen" and "You're My Best Friend". The quartet's canny sense of melody and sophisticated vocal harmonies--not to mention Mercury's raised eyebrow--have travelled well through the years.

Simply the best Greatest Hits aroundIf you were to buy one Queen album, this would be it. Apart from Sheer Heart Attach and A Night At The Opera, Queen's studio album's were inconsistent affairs and always had the odd stinker (e.g. Drowse, More Of That Jazz, Who Needs You, etc). This album collates 17 of their biggest singles (all Top 20 in one way or another) and you can't really complain about the track listing. OK, so a few singles are not on here (Tie Your Mother Down and Spread Your Wings were minor hits, Keep Yourself Alive didn't chart) but this compilation seems perfectly balanced with the tracks already on here. It's apparent that Freddie Mercury was definitely the dominant songwriter within this period of the band (Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, Crazy Little Thing...., Somebody To Love, Don't Stop Me Now, etc) but there are also a couple of gems from John Deacon (Another One Bites The Dust, You're My Best Friend) with Brian May providing the rock (Now I'm Here, We Will Rock You, etc). Basically, this album is essential even for non-Queen fans.

GloriousLadies and Gentlemen, please be upstanding for the finest rock album ever!
Queen albums had their fare share of filler and dross - this is evaporated off into a one CD collection of their finest moments.
Without a single duffer, the only improvement could have been inclusion of Tie Your Mother Down and Spread Your Wings. Otherwise - perfect!

If you only buy one Queen album, get this oneGreatest Hits covers Queen's "classic" period, and shows just how good they were as a singles band.
There are *no* bad songs on this album- most of them are very good if not downright brilliant. (I still remember the first time I heard "Don't Stop Me Now"- it just felt so... good). And because there's a diverse range of styles (unlike some singles collections) you never get the feeling of "nothing but sweets".
In response to the person who didn't like the line up... well, this *is* their Greatest Hits. Although a fantastic album track, Brighton Rock was never a single and wouldn't fit stylistically here. Keep Yourself Alive never charted, and Tie Your Mother Down didn't do well either; they're also both overrated in my humble opinion... and Bicycle Race rules- so there!! (Ahem)
In my opinion, this is Queen's best "album". Okay, purists will probably complain that compilations don't count, but who cares what they think?! If I could only have one Queen CD, this would be it.
This is one of the few albums I'd recommend without qualification- if you like pop or rock, it should be in your collection- no question.
