Classy marriage of harmony and hip-hop
This is one of those albums that gets spot-welded to your CD player and keeps on giving.

Who would think that sunny, confident and actually quite sophisticated West Coast pop harmonies could meet hip-hop on its own terms and the whole thing could get along so well? This album is a joy, a ray of melodic sunshine which you'll be whistling the hook lines from for years. Seriously infectious. I have no idea why we never saw a 2nd outing for Imani Coppola, perhaps we should hear from her again.

Thoroughly recommended.

One of the soundtrack albums of my life!!!
Imani Copolla sadly only released one album through her record label Columia before, one assumes, being dropped.

But what an album it is!!!

Whilst hip-hop beats and Sesame street-esque melodies may sound like uncomfortable bedfellows, imani marries them both flawlessly creating a bouncy, sunny soundscape peppered with self-depreciation, self-analysis and a good helping of self-love!!!

This is one of those "Flu" album that as soon as you play it to your friends, it catches!!! I think i lost count of the tapes i made for friends or reccomended where you could by it cheaply when i was in College !

This is a unique work that i'll still be playing in years to come! It's such a shame that even back in the day of '97, before the main-stream saturation of Have-A-Go pop-stars, Imani never got the recognition she deserves.

Smile when you interpret the name of ths album ;o)
I bought this album back in 1998 when it first came out, purely on hearing "Legend of a Cowgirl".
She's been called the "female Beck", and the "Black Cyndi Lauper", but to be honsest - Imani is truly in a league of her own. This is a highly original album, filled with humour, melody, opinions we can all relate to (check track 7!), and dark & heartfelt undertones.
Highlights of this album include - Legend of a Cowgirl, Naked City, and the excellent Forget Myself.
Extremly underated, well written and well executed, this is a rare gem.

Great Album!
Imani Coppola is a great artist, and it was a great pleasure to finally find her album at a reasonable price. The whole album is a dream to listen to, and the songs are all fantastic combinations of musical styles.
