Extraordinary singer gives moving insight into Jewish past.
In "Yiddish Songs", Chava Alberstein, takes us on a poignant journey through the rich tapestry of Yiddish culture. Albertstein has re-interpreted both traditional Yiddish Songs, as well as songs written during the Holocaust. Her voice has a unique depth and richness, and with it, she envelops the listener into a world which is at once joyous and tragic. From the vibrant klesmer music of "A Keshenever" (The Song of Kishinev) to the elegiac "Unter Dy'ne Vy'se Shetern" (Under the White Stars), Chava Alberstein displays her intense relationship with her cultural heritage. This album is a real treasure from a truly magnificent singer. I cannot recommend this collection of songs highly enough.
