In some ways, this was there peak
When I first heard Vs I thought, well it's alright, not as good as Ten though. Indeed it probably is not as good as its predecessor, Ten will perhaps forever remain as the Pearl Jam's greatest album. However, after a few listens my feelings toward this album went from `alright' to `amazing'. This album is a lot louder and a lot angrier then Ten but not as dark. Songs like Go, Animal, Rearvewmirror and Leash probably set the tone for the album as loud, solid anthems; but it is often in the quieter tracks, the Daughters, the indifferences where the album really shines. Both those 2 songs are one of PJ's best. Eddie was probably at his lyrical best on this album in the songs already mentioned and in his awesome story telling in Dissident and Elderly Lady Behind the Counter in a Small Town. Vedder truly amazes in the latter (lyrics-wise). The base heavy WMA is another delight and more than makes up for Blood, the albums only below-par track. Even though Ten will remain my favourite there is no denying the progression and maturation of Pearl Jam on to their second album. This is a classic.

Hypnotic...
I had every other Pearl Jam album apart from VS up until this week. I don't know why it took me so long to get this album, I guess i was waiting for a nicer package of some kind to be released (all their others come in a great digi pack version, apart from ten and vs). Anyway, I haven't taken it out of the laptop since I put it in. It might as well be stuck. The lyrics are fantastic and the guitar solos aren't over done. It doesn't sound as dark as Ten, but let's not get into comparing, this album is simply hypnotic. You're drawn in from begining to end. It's full of great guitar hooks and Vedders voice is painfully raw, he means every word he sings. For a band to have become as big as they did with their debut and then release this, with that horrid looking cover, is inspiring. I hope they continue to "sing out" and release the gems that they do. forget the fashionable indie scene, grow out that fringe and get Pearl Jams back catalogue. You just might learn more than you did in school.

One of the best grunge albums ever by my favourite grunge band ever
I don't agree with anyone who says Pearl Jam's later albums are toilet standard but I do agree with anybody who says that Vs is as good as anything they have ever done. Personally I can't separate this from their debut TEN as my favourite Pearl Jam album. Pearl Jam just about edge it ahead of ALICE IN CHAINS as my favourite grunge band ever but only because fifteen years after the release of TEN, they are still making consistently great music.

Surely one of the greatest second albums ever considering the brilliance of the first, overall Vs has a very different sound to it than TEN, TEN is outstanding but I would say it is a more difficult listen for any new Pearl Jam fans but it depends on the individual. I see Vs as the opposite, overall a much easier listen but just as outstanding. Some of my personal favourites on this include the opening track GO, one of the most unusual tracks on the album W.M.A and the final track INDIFFERENCE.

From somebody who's favourite ever bands include Pearl Jam and owns all of their studio albums, I can honestly say there isn't an album filler to be heard on Vs. AN ESSENTIAL GRUNGE ALBUM.

Sheer Perfection
As everyone does i bought 'Ten' and wondered what all the fuss was about, it had good songs but they were butchered by the overbearing 80's stlye production.

then i bought 'Rearview Mirror: The Best of Pearl Jam' and fell in love with the remakes. i have subsequently bought all of pearl jams albums but i still consider this one the best of them all.

Where to start, the opening track 'go' does exactly what it says on the tin, there are a lot of good heavy tracks on this album, wich reaches its pinnacle with 'blood', but it also is very melodic at the same time almost acoustic tracks like 'Elderly woman....' and my personal favorite 'daughter' are stunning and give the album a great balance.
Every track on the album is great, its a must have for anyone who likes music
