Editorial reviews
Amazon.co.uk ReviewOne of the defining albums of thrash metal, iMaster of Puppets/i is arguably Metallica's best album (as well as their last with bassist Cliff Burton). Focusing on the concept of power and abuses thereof, this is a collection of complex, intelligent music, played at about a hundred miles an hour. Not that these are short songs; this eight-song album clocks in at over an hour, which makes it all the more impressive that not one moment on this recording is boring. In tackling various approaches to their subject, Metallica is insightful lyrically as well as musically: "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" is from the point of view of an institutionalised inmate and "Disposable Heroes" is the perspective of a soldier. i--Genevieve Williams /i

Best of thrash metalYes released in 1986 what a year it was for thrash metal. Along with other great thrash albums this one topped it, i tell you it was close between Darkness descends and this. This tops it because of melody and James's voice.
br /Battery - Great opener nice acoustic riff.
br /Master of puppets and orion great riffs and solos fused together
br /Disposable heroes great war lyrics guitar playing even better.
br /Welcome home i can really relate to great intro and lyrics. The rest of the songs are good. One of the best albums released i do not think any band will ever top this greatest metal album of all time along with darknes descends dark angel.

Some albums are never datedListen hard and this album is just a forerunner to ...And Justice for All - but why listen hard? Just enjoy the album! The highlights for me are Master of Puppets and Sanatarium. For all musicians out there, listen carefully to the structure of Sanatarium - 4/4 but a strange bar structure - perfect for the subject matter. Great band, great album.
