Editorial reviews
Amazon.co.uk ReviewThis record has so much good material that it's a shame the production is so shoddy. Song-wise, this is probably Metallica's most sophisticated album, exploring the theme of justice and perversions thereof with a vengeance. "One" is one of their best songs ever, building from a slow, edgy beginning into effortless overdrive. The title track is excellent and never boring, despite clocking in at more than nine minutes. It's the epic of the album, but all of the songs are long, displaying impressive chops and songwriting. Metallica took a commercial turn after
...And Justice for All, and it's interesting to speculate on what would have happened to their music had they continued in the direction suggested by this album.

thrash and heavy metal in one albummy fav metallica album by far, kill em all was good but i never saw the big deal with ride the lightning and the puppets album but this is summat else each track goes on for ages with different guitar riffs and some good lyrics, its also the kinda album you can bang your head to as it goes from thrash one min to a slower tempo the next, so it suits both the old and new fans of metallica and as for the production i didnt even notice until i read amazons review, plus i think it makes the snare drum sound better.

so so albumIn my opinion And Justice For All is the album where Metallica shifted direction into what can best be described as hard progressive rock. If you want to enjoy the best of the band buy the first three albums, after that the song writing and music gets a little tedious and long-gone are the great riffs and tight songs of the earlier material. It's not that bad an effort, but really only an essential purchase for hardcore fans.

flawed brillianceYes, the sound quality is poor.
And yes, the songs are long and very complicated.
But get your head around the complexities, get over the poor production, and you will hear this album for what it is - Metallica at their best.
Master Of Puppets may get the reviews and the hype, yet it includes The Thing That Should Not Be, Sanitarium and Leper Messiah, three very forgettable songs (by Metallica's standards). The Shortest Straw is probably the worst song on 'Justice', and it is twice as good as any of those three songs.
Having said all of that, if you feel a need to read the reviews in detail before purchasing then your mind is probably not open enough to be able to appreciate the music!

A Masterpiece, it may take you awhile to get into all of it.I bought this album in january and i thought it was amazing the songs are really heavy, it's loud, the drumming and the drum sound is breathtaking, the solos are brilliant and lyrics are very political. To be honest i have no problem with the production i think the albums fine the way it is. I dont have a favourite track on this there all amazing though Too Live Is Too Die did take some listening to get into and so did harvester of sorrow, the rest of the tracks i loved straight away. From the awesome Blackend to really fast and heavy Dyers Eve the album is a masterpiece. I can't really fault this album i prefer this to the black album well i prefer most metallicas album to the black album. This is a great place to start with metallica and thrash metal this is metallicas last thrash metal album and they havn't made a thrash metal albumm since. This is recommended to every metalhead. METALLICA ROCK

Not as good as some people say'...And Justice For All' was Metallica's first album after the death of bassist Cliff Burton. It was always going to be tough to follow. Espicially as the previous release was the brilliant 'Master of Puppets'. For me, 'Justice' just isn't as good as other Metallica albums. The three before this were amazing and had brilliant songs that would stay in your head for days. On this album, the only tracks that will stay in your head are 'One', 'Blackened' and 'Harvester Of Sorrow.' Most other Metallica albums don't have one bad song, but this is different. Only a few good tracks, while the rest are very poor. Tracks:
'Blackened': Good opener to the album. When first heard you won't think much of it, but over time becomes one of the best on this album. 5/5
'And Justice For All': This track is just too long for me. Almost ten minutes. I don't mind long tracks at all, if they deserve to be that long. But this should be half the length. After about three minutes you want to skip it. 2/5
'Eye of the Beholder': Another track where you can't remember how it goes when its not being played. 2/5
'One': Easily the best track on here. One of Metallica's best ever and it really deserves to be on a better album. 5/5
'The Shortest Straw': At first, I mixed this up with a few other tracks on the album is it sounded slightly the same. But after about 5 listens it becomes a bit more unique. Only ok though. 3/5
'Harvester of Sorrow': The only other good track on this album. Good chorus and good lyrics overall. 4/5
'The Frayed Ends of Sanity': Only ok. Not a great riff like other Metallica tracks. 3/5
'To Live is to Die': Not much to say about this. Its ok. Very 'meh' like this whole album really. Too long. 3/5
'Dyers Eve': Good ending to the album. Still not really a standout track though. 3/5
Overall, this album should have been classic Metallica, but it wasn't. The Black Album after this was much better. This album was only really saved by the genius of 'One'. There were no great riffs like every other Metallica album, and the songs aren't better than ok. Borrow it of someone first and make your own judgement, but I wouldn't recommend purchasing.
