Absolute Delight

If you have never heard Hue and Cry, a scottish brother duo that started in the eighties then you have missed an absolute treat.

This album which is a "Best Of" album contains nearly all their best music. From the deep ballads of "Peaceful Face", the fantastic vocals on "Violently" and "Truth", to the ever populat classics of "Ordinary Angels" and "Looking For Linda".

The Kane brothers vocals and harmonies are superb. The clarity of their voices are rich and the album is an absolute delight.

The Kane Brothers' brilliance showcased superbly.
Hue And Cry were one of the best Scottish bands of the late 80s and early 90s, whose innovative mix of the popular and the innovative was often overshadowed by other, better known Scottish contemporaries such as Deacon Blue and Wet Wet Wet. As with many bands who have suffered from this unfortunate lack of widespread popularity, a collection of their finest moments gives rise to comments of "Oh, I forgot they did that", or "That's good, I remember it now" From the frontal attack of "Labour of Love" and "Strength to Strength", to the more laid back "Violently" and "Peaceful Face", the diversity of Pat and Greg Kane's musical productions are here for all to remember and sing along to, with traces of jazz, country and even soul to be found. Most of the songs here were released when I first left home for university, and bring back fond memories of bars and clubs in early 90s Glasgow, but also remind me of how good the music scene used to be, before boy bands and American teen starlets took over the charts. So if you want to be reminded of better times, or even just want to hear something a little bit different, then you could do worse then give Hue And Cry a chance - I'm sure you wouldn't regret it.
