"The early Ricky" turns out to be just as good if not betterWith many artists, early records are just not of the quality that the later ones are. However, this one is definitely worth the while. Since it's less geared towards a conquest of the world markets, and more geared towards Latin America, where success had already been attained, it's not such a n overdone latin music stereotype, but still retains those wonderful Latin qualities. It has the songs that make you want to get out on the dance floor and shake that booty (for example "María"), but in brilliant contrast, some ballads that just make you sigh at the romanticism of it all. One of my favorites would have to be "Te extraño, te olvido, te amo" (I miss you, I forget you, I love you), by now a classic in all South America. Another of the factors that led me to liking this CD is that it's sung Spanish. In my own opinion, which obviously isn't shared by all, the true latino music is in Spanish - it automatically changes when it's sung in the Spanglish that Ricky's new album and albums from say Enrique Iglesias seem to favor. There's just no way of creating the authenticity when the language is no longer the original one. But overall, I've definitely got to tip my hat to Mr.Martin and his crew for coming out with an album like this that provides something for every taste, and still manages to be good. Even sworn Ricky Martin haters have had to admit that "this one's not so bad"
