Words do not do it justice...just listen to it!Well, after years listening to and playing pretty well all that music could throw at me, I was arrogant enough to think that music couldn't surprise me any more. Entertain, impress, exhilarate yes, but not surprise.
Well, this album surprised me as well as entertained, impressed and exhilarated me. It manages to mix so many disparate musical styles ranging from Black Metal to dance music (and much in between) so effortlessly, like it's easy to jump between these styles and still retain the listener's atention, and without making listening difficult.
It retains the depth of the subject matter, it expresses the thoughts and images within it in a way that I would not have thought possible.
Top notch, intellegent, clever music that every serious fan of music should listen to.

Amazingly differentThis was the first album that Ulver did which wasn't black metal, and the start of their metamorphasis into the band they are today - I was far from disappointed!
The idea of music set around the texts of William Blakes Heaven & Hell sounded a tad lame to me initially, until I actually heard what they had done with it, and what they had done with their overall sound.
Still utilising black metal melodies, but occasionally mixing it up with small amounts of dub and drum & bass in places (I usually hate this type of music, but not when done by Ulver!) without overkilling and ruining the sound and feel of the album.
Basically, its a great experience to listen to. Check it out.

Pure brilliance
A masterpiece of alternative music. The setting of William Blakes prose to a fascinating blend of music provides both food for thought and entertainment.
One word of warning - if you know Ulver as a black metal band, then this is most definately NOT black metal.
I just cannot recommend this enough, and the only blemish on this product is the strange decision to split it over two CDs, so you have to change halfway. Seeing as there is only about 70 minutes of music (rather than silence) between the two CDs, it should have fitted on one...
This quibble aside though, it is one of the most unique and absorbing albums around.
