Music for classic virgins
As a relative newcomer to classical music I was a bit daunted by the array of composers and their differing styles, consequently I did not want to purchase a single composer in case I did not like their distinctive manner of composing. So after reading various reviews I chose The Essential Classics Collection. br /In just a few short days I have become completely enamoured with the music on the six Cd's. The compilation is divided into six categories in order to give the listener a taste of some of the different genres within classical music. To the aficionado it may seem a tad commercial, in so much as there are tracks that are readily identifiable. However, to balance this out there are also enough samples of, to the novice at least, seem more less mainstream. br /This collection has certainly wet my appetite for more classical music, and look forward to continuing my journey of exploration into the world of the classics.

Fantastic Classics Collection!
When I spotted this collection on Amazon, I knew I just had to buy it! I purchased two copies, one for myself and one for my sister who I knew would appreciate both the music and the famous artists featured. For anyone who loves classical music, but maybe doesn't want to spend a lot of money on one particular composition or composer, this collection is just perfect! The Essential Classics Collection

Bought it as a gift
I bought this as a gift for my niece, since I wanted her to be educated about classical music as she was on her way to college. Ended up buying two copies as I found I loved it so much. Normally I like to pick and choose my orchestras, composers, and conductors, but this collection has jujst about everything. Also, I'd never bought some of the more "popular" items (Strauss and Grieg) as I'd heard them a million times, but now I have them and the performances are all great. This truly has a smattering of it all, and if you're not a classical music lover, it's bound to turn you on to the stuff.

Good value collection... but...
This 6 CD collection contains most of the popular classical music you could every want and is priced competitively. However many of the recordings are very old and the sound quality is at best adequate. A lot of the performances although technically excellent are dull and uninspiring. The packaging is bland with minimal information about the music or performers. If you want quality rather than quantity look elsewhere.

The ultimate classical album
Yes I know lots of people have said this before but if you want a box set to add to your collection then this has to be it. Quite simply it has everything you will need to cover any mood you might be in. An essential purchase. 5 stars!
