Barbarians vs. All Blacks 1973Great action of the whole game. Two amazing tries and the surely the best-ever near miss!

Wonderful, passionate myth-maker of a gameWatching this 28 years on, you can only wonder how brightly some of the extraordinarily talented backs and loose forwards of that time would have shone today. Everyone remembers Edwards's try, but the game is also memorable for Duckham's sidestepping runs, the fine broken play of Slattery and David, the aggressive commitment of JPR and Bevan, and - for the All Blacks - the genius of Grant Batty. Would the Barbarians have won if the All Blacks had kicked their penalties? This was no exhibition game - it was a coda to the Lions' series-winning tour of New Zealand, and you can see how much the All Blacks wanted to gain revenge. Does anyone know what happened to Wilkinson, the uncapped English lock, distinctive on this memorable day in his Cambridge blue socks?

Rugby magicIf you've heard people talk about how the game of rugby union was so free-flowing in the amateur days...well it wasn't always quite like that! But this game certainly was, and I will never forget it. Some of the greatest players of all time perform to unbelievable heights to defeat the mighty All Blacks. If only rugby was always like this, who would need heaven?

Essential - one of the great games of all timeEvery rugby fan should see this. Probably everyone has seen THE try, beginning with Phil Bennett sidestepping like a lunatic in front of his own goalposts, and ending 7 passes later with Gareth Edwards' glory dive into the corner (and thousands of fans can quote Cliff Morgan's commentary on that try word-for-word). Not everyone knows that from about the 5th minute the whole game was like that. This was not an exhibition game - it was hard, competitive rugby, and both teams badly wanted to win, but nowhere else will you see so many great players string together so many great moves in one game.
At this price, this is a great bargain.
