Shortened but still sweet
I found Dangaioh in a video shop that was closing down, and bought it for £2. Such a bargain for such a funny film. I agree with the other reviews that its a shame it was shortened, and yes it does remind me a bit of power rangers at times, but the characters are well explained at the beginning and are hilarious at the end. The swearing that starts towards the end catches you off guard, probably because the first half doesn't feature any then all of a sudden they are all cursing every oportunity they get! Its a good one. Would be far better if the whole series were released, it would be a great collection. Overall well worth watching.

Fast moving jam packed funny violent and very very catchy
WOW, great animation, the best i have seen from manga in a while, i first saw the flick five years ago and it started my love affair with manga ever since. the story is racing, jumpy at times but never boares you. The one liners from the villains is funny and adds to the overall dark sarcastic humour. Overall the film is great, yes! pity about the first episode, but hay! it has violence bloodshed and swearing and its all in animation...who could ask for more.

Good for what it is...
I bought this film ages back, and thought that it was an enjoyable, but limited, flick. I still hold that view now, and I still watch it every now and then. Although the reduction to 2 and a bit episodes is annoying (and the ending even more so), the bits that you see are GOOD. The Mechs are GOOD. The characters are GOOD (even though there are so many and the video is so short that you can't really get into them as much as you might like). Although there are stupid ideas (Hold your one-shot win attack to the end? Every time? Whatever.), there are some top lines, as another reviewer said. The animation is good in general (although the shading effects are a bit dodgy), and definitely superior to some of the other films I've seen around. I'm mainly pointing out the bad bits, I know, but that's just my style. Suffice to say, this has good bits and bad bits in FAIRLY equal quantities, and I think it getting the rating it does is a bit harsh. So I'm submitting this review so as to raise it to the number of stars it deserves.

Very enjoyable if you just lay back and think of Japan
Okay, the reason that Dangaioh gets such bad press is because someone, in their wisdom, decided to reduce this three part story into a two part and ten minutes story, the entire first episode has been reduced to a prologue which flashes too fast to have any impact. Maybe if this hadn't happened people would take more kindly to Dangaioh. At first view it looks like Bubble Gum Crisis with psychic abilities but it's more like a pilot for Power Rangers. The bad guys are excelent and the robots are some of the best you'll see. Just pretend that you know the story and nod in the right places and you've got a great addition to your anime collection. It'll make you wish that 1) you could get the first episode since the prologue seems so good, and 2) that they made another three.

Idiot Plot
Whilst some of the animation in this is pretty, the plotting is fairly stupid, the heroes are unappealing, and even the villains' one-liners get tiresome (though I did like "Because you're the most annoying brat in the universe!" and "Be honest, do you know anyone who has as much fun as I do?"). There are much better Giant Robot stories out there.
