review by: boldfox date: 2005-02-14 rating: Top show but weakend by changes in animation from series 1,2 This is the middle chapter of series 3 of the Animals of Farthing Wood. It focuses on how the rats are beginning to settle into the park. Unfortunately for the others the rats are not wanted due to the disease they spread and the fact that they prey on the frogs of the pond. This video show that the animals are finally reacting to the rats' presence and fighting back. The first battle is a short one when Whisper, Ranger and Charmer kill several at the pond during the night but it's pointless, "How many of us can you kill? ... We're too many and more are coming ha ha." Even when the other foxes and the adders join in the attack it is still futile. The rats are growing in numbers. More come from all places outside the park and many are born inside the park every day, growing to full size in a month. Even Fox, the leader of the animals knows that they can't defeat the rats on their own, they need the help of the warden who is busy working on a new nature reserve and unaware of the rats. This is a very good tape containing some of the best moments from the series such as when Adder and Sinuous go underground to kill Bully and as many baby rats as possible. The video ends on a very sad note as one of the animals that came from Farthing Wood suffers a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the rats. That is likely to be the only moment that can really upset the kids that you may get this tape for but it's still worth getting as the video is very good.
