Synopsis
'The Awakening' finds the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough in the pretty, English village of Little Hodcombe, where the residents are recreating a battle fought there in 1643. 'Frontios' sees the Doctor grounded on the inhospitable planet of Frontios where the last human survivors scratch out a desperate existence.

From the Back Cover
The TRDIS has brought the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough to the picture-postcard English village of little Hodcombe. Tegan has come to visit her grandfather - well known local historian Andrew Verney - but he seems to be missing. the residents of Little Hodcombe, led by the obsessive Sir Gearge Hutchinson, are playing a vicious war game - an exact recreation of a battle of teh English Civil War fought there in 1643.

Davison shines on the planet Frontios
A well written and well produced story, this boasts one of Peter Davison's finest ever portrayals of the Doctor. here is is strong, domineering, quirky, eccentric, funny and manipulative in turns, commanding the screen and dealing with human authorities and nasty, scheming alien creatures with equal amounts of authority. Anyone who thinks davsion is not one of the best Doctors needs look no further than this story to see the emergence of a giant, ready to become an unsurpassed legend just two stories later as he visits a set of titular Caves! Watch it and savour it, it is one of the finest! The dialog alone is a treat to ears! Watch it!

Pretty Good
The The Awakening is a great little story. Although it is only a 2 parter it is almost as good as the fantastic Black Orchid. The Malus is a great monster and is a really good Peter Davidson story Frontios however isn't as good. It does tend to drag on for 4 parts a little bit. The Tractatiors are pretty good monsters once they get into the story- I wish they didn't fall over so much! Much of the acting in Frontios is as bad as the villagers of Metabilis 3 in Jon Pertwees Planet of the Spiders(That's really bad!) So 5 stars for The Awakening and 3 stars for Frontios So 4 stars overall! Reccomended
