Amazon.co.uk ReviewDirector Martin Scorsese reunites with members of his IGoodFellas/I gang (writer Nicholas Pileggi; actors Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Frank Vincent) for a three-hour epic about the rise and fall of mobster Sam "Ace" Rothstein (De Niro), a character based on real-life gangster Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal. (It's modelled on IWiseguy/I and IGoodFellas/I and Pileggi's true crime book iCasino: Love and Honour in Las Vegas/i.) Through Rothstein, the picture tells the story of how the Mafia seized, and finally lost control of, Las Vegas gambling. The first hour plays like a fascinating documentary, intricately detailing the inner workings of Vegas casinos. Sharon Stone is the stand out among the actors; she nabbed an Oscar nomination for her role as the voracious Ginger, the glitzy call girl who becomes Rothstein's wife. The film is not as fast-paced or gripping as Scorsese's earlier gangster pictures (iMean Streets/i and iGood Fellas/i) but it's still absorbing. And, hey--it's Scorsese! i--Jim Emerson/i

GOOD, but not for the faint hearted/sensitive types!I have now seen this film about 8 times and each time i watch it i see something new. this is a brilliant film, no doubt. some people think that it is nothing more than a re-make of the legendary Goodfellas, however dont let this put you off because although there is similarities between the two, it is still a masterpiece and, though long, is worth your time. Typical gritty scorsese material, with not a little blood and more than its share of colourful language to say the least, a good storyline and of course, fantastic actors/actresses in it, make it an experience. Do not avoid this film because of the goodfellas "re-make" claims, rather, watch it and compare the two for greatness.

Casino - a brilliant piece of Mafia movieHold on to your seats, your hats, your bags of popcorn! Robert de Niro at his best as a the 'straight' operator in the dirty world of Mafia-run casinos; Sharon Stone plays his sleazy, degenerate girlfriend, who becomes his wife and the mother of his child. Why do some women never have enough? All that wealth, all that cosseting, everything material in the world, a husband who really loves her and she goes and snorts it all away... She's the embodiment of what gives us girls a bad name. As for Joe Pesci - what can one say? He's chilling, menacing and very, very violent, tight as a banjo string - don't mess with this boy! All-in-all, a very intelligent, fabulously scripted Scorcese masterpiece! It's long, but be warned, it'll keep you rivetted to your sofa - if you can bear to come out from behind it sometimes!

I want an equal amount of buleberries in each muffin! An equal amount!A great gangster movie! Martin Scorsese really delivered on the goods!!

br /For those of you that have a short attention span, be warned this is a long movie! But if you really follow the movie, which you have to do to pick up the little intricacies that add to the plot, you should be able to appreciate the growing complexity of the plot.

br /The main thing to mention is that this movie shares a lot with the other Scorsese movie 'Goodfellas'! Joe Pecsi's character is too similar to the one he played in 'Goodfellas'! A trigger happy thug who has ambitions of runnig the show. I don't want to ruin both movies for anyone who hasn't seen it but his character reaches the end of both movies the exact same way! Not really creative!

br /Sharon Stone's character... crackhead! At first she appears to be a sharp and cunning personality, but then turns into a junkie who becomes a pest throughout the movie!! If I was in the moive I would have had her wacked half way through the movie! She annoyed me like all non-comedic crackheads do!
br /
br /I liked the part where the guy running the grocery store starts swearing and his ma keeps telling him not to use that kind of language and he keeps on swearing and she just roles her eyes in dispair! Also, the part where Robert De Niro losses it over the blueberry muffins and has a talk to the chef!! I love the look on the chef's face when he says "do you know how long that will take?"
br /
br /All in all, a good movie definitely worth seeing, but if you've seen Godfellas or aren't really into gangster movies, then just rent it!
br /But if you're like me and don't mind seeing a movie a million times till you've memorized large chucks of the dialogue then go for it!

a 3 hour film watched in 3 instalmentsI watched this movie in 3 instalments because it's nearly 3 hours long.
br /It was okay but the storyline and style of acting and actors were much like I've seen in countless gangster type films like this one.It was a little predictable and I think the fact that Martin Scorsese got the man who was writing the story as a book to delay finishing the book and help him write a screenplay lowered the quality.Screenplays usually work best when a finished and established book is adapted for the screen.

I loved it!!Casino was another helping of the finest acting. all of the characters were excellect, De Niro again didnt fail in empressing me. The story line was awsome, full of quirky lines and little surprises along the way (a little violence of course). although i dont think this film was as good as goodfellas i was still very impressed over all.
