Not quite the best ever!!The X-Files long running mythology came to something approaching a conclusion with the Season Six two-parter "Two Fathers/One Son". With the hybrid arc resolved, "Biogenesis/The Sixth Extinction/Amor Fati" move onto something different - the origins of mankind.
The first episode in the trilogy - the Season 6 cliffhanger "Biogenesis" - sets up a mysterious and interesting tale, crafting religion and science together beautifully. Unfortunately, the Season 7 openers "The Sixth Extinction" and "The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati" don't uphold this. There are moments of good character development, and an intersting story in the background - but the emphasis gradually puts the science-meets religion story into the background, focussing on Mulder in a rather dull, seen-it-all-before story. A wasted opportunity - I just hope that the Season 9 follow up, "Provenance/Providence" can take the ideas further.

The best X-Files everI was thrilled when I heard that the latest X-Files three-parter "Biogenesis", "The Sixth Extinction", and "The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati" was coming to video. I was even more thrilled when I'd seen it. I thought it was just fantastic. The scene where the Cigarette Smoking Man looks out of the window and we see the world in ashes and spacecraft flying around was just so eerie and there are loads of other bits that are superb and I don't have room to mention them here. If you are a true X-Files fan you'll get this video as soon as possible if you haven't already seen it.

Almost the best X Files video ever...When I bought and watched One Son, I imagined that there could be no episode better than this. The plot was so exciting and revealing, with so many of the questions answered. This had to be perfection...and then I saw Biogenesis.
This video was so good that it rivalled One Son in almost every way. It didn't answer as many questions as the former, but it did pose entirely new ones: who does Krycek really work for? Did the aliens create life on Earth? Are CSM and Mulder's mum psychic, like Mulder was for a short while? That said, we finally know who Mulder's father is...unless he's lying. And lots of people die.
My all-time favourite scene has to be either when Scully finds the buried craft, or when it disappears, or the vision of the apocalyptic future, or...there are loads!
To round off, these episodes are the joint greatest ever! Keep going with these plotlines!

Maybe not the best ever...Contrary to the previous reviewer, Biogenesis is probably not the best ever X-files episode (still there are plot gaps, illogical actions, some old questions answered, new enigmas left open), but it is revealing... At least it seems they have finally decided to answer whose son Mulder is (guess 3 times, whose...). But the ardent X-Philes love the series for something different - brilliant emotional interplay between GA and DD, and inexhaustable fantasy of the authors. Go for it...it is there...

The best X File ever. This is the best X Files episode ever written. It is the most revealing, telling more than ever hoped about the conspiracy.
The end of Series 6 and the start of Series 7 (not shown in UK until 19/3/00).
This is definetley the best ever!
