Fantastic stuff! This album has been in my collection for ages, brought on a whim as I hoped it had the history repeating track that was then in the charts. It didn't but what it did have was a fantastic intoroduction to one of the most gorgeous vocalists I have ever encountered. The sound, all in, is lush and lavish and the range is staggering, fun, foxy, devastated, frivolous. I still listen to this before going out for an evening. If at first you wonder what the hells going on then give it some time, I apprreciate it's probably fairly radical for the people that are more familiar with her classic material, but as a way in for someone of my generation I can't fault it, and still when I listen I get something new out of it....ah, less talk, go buy!

Shirley shines through - and the original vibe is kept.Having passed this by several times, based on experiences of a lot of "Greatest Hits remixed" compliations, I am very glad I did risk it in the end. For those of you who shudder to think what may have been done here to Dame Bassey's classics, in most cases the additional production is percussive and edits - only a few of the tracks are more dubby (ie use a sample line) or clearly accessed from vocal master tapes. As such most retain the feel of the original relatively intact due to elements of the original instrumentation. However,if you are expecting a dance remix album then these fairly slow revamps may not be your cup oftea - these remixes have been done sympathetically throughout. That doesn't mean they aren't playful, or indeed don't range from good to excellent - they are! Several Bond themes get a revisit along the way, "GoldFinger" is a classic.
If you're a Bassey purist this is definitely worth a listen, and if you like your remixes tastefully done then this will also appeal. You simply can't keep a good girl down!!

Bassey for the 21st CenturyThis is a truly excellent album. I bought it for a quirk a couple of weeks ago, and was absolutely stunned at how good it was. The Groove Armada remix is cool! Shame History Repeating was left off, but what the hay! More please!

How wrong is Desiree, how right is Kenny DopeKenny Dope's remix of Relight My Fire is a seminal masterpiece, I can't quote the sleeve notes verbatim but to paraphrase it, Kenny simply states that he purely wanted to hear what it sounded like with the drums turned up, rock on Kenny. Another sublime track is Where do I Begin, beautiful. I've had the pleasure of seeing Dame Shirley live twice now & this album adds rather than detracts from the legend that is Shirley Bassey (this, Paradisiac & some underground NY hip-hop thing are the best records I've heard for a while, not forgetting St Germaine.....Shoki Shoki remixed........anything on Naked...)

Get your groove on!...to Shirley Bassey? This remix album was the perfect introduction for a youngish (29!), dance-music freak like me to Dame Shirley Bassey. For some time before buying the CD, I've been curious as to what Ms. Bassey sounds like. This CD takes her classics and gives them great hip-hop and dance backdrops!
My favorite remix on the CD is "Big Spender". Followed by "Diamonds Are Forever", "Where Do I Begin" and "Goldfinger". The most unnecessary cut is Kenny Dope's version of "Light My Fire". That spot should've been filled in with "History Repeating". Then again, perhaps that may explain why there are two versions of "Light My Fire" on the CD. The 2nd remix (or the "worthy" remix as I like to call it) is done by Twelftree and unlike Kenny Dope's remix, earns its place on this impeccable album!
I purchased the album about a month ago and it hasn't left my portable CD player yet! I can't get tired of hearing her voice. I think this would be my choice should I ever be stranded on a desert island with one CD. Really! Dame Bassey's voice with the vicious beats is the greatest combo since chocolate and peanut butter!
