Amazon.co.uk Review
Praised at the time for Jim Carrey's facial acrobatics as the titular hero, IThe Mask/I also had real charm in its use of period-ambiguous settings and intelligent use of its heroine, Cameron Diaz in her first screen role. Carrey is as interesting when he's the put-upon Stanley Ipkiss as he is when he transforms into an amoral cartoon character (thanks to chance discovery of an ancient mask). When a sweet woman reporter tells him that he is the nicest man in town, it does not strike us as odd. The plot is a pretty standard one--the hero comes to realise that he can do everything for himself and does not need magical assistance--but outstanding performances by Peter Green as the gangster heavy and Peter Riegret as the irascible cop who has to make sense of things offers the film a bit more dramatic oomph. Add to this a couple of splendid song-and-dance routines and one of the most charming dogs in modern movies, and you have something moderately special.p BOn the DVD:/B The DVD comes with a very enthusiastic director's commentary, a moderately interesting making-of documentary and interviews with the cast as well as the theatrical trailer. --IRoz Kaveney/I

What else can i say it's simply a masterpiece. Now that we are in the era of advance tech, i think mask should be reborn.

Pure evil.
I am sick and tired of all this green faced evil that pollutes so much of our films and TV. All the evil implications of having a green face are evident in this film, and the subtleties of the evil that the mask makes people do is overt and a little disturbing to say the least. br / br /If anyone out there has studied the history and meaning of green faces they will understand this film's evil intentions and undertones. I cannot look too long at the cover of this DVD because of evil greeness and I bookmark and skip the bits when Jim 'can't act' Carrey has the mask on. It would be a good film if he and the green face elements were left out but as it stands this film is evil and it knows it. br / br /Please do not let evil green faces into your life, look elsewhere for evil green faces and reduce their influence too.

Classic Jim Crazy
This is Jim Carrey on top form: restrained but manic as Stanley Ipkiss, and totally unstoppable as The Mask, without being as sickening as he was in the second Ace Ventura film. The plot is fairly simple, and all the better for it. The bad guys are disposable but their presence is felt nonetheless. And Cameron Diaz (of whom I've never been a fan) is undeniably smoldering in her debut role. The one liners are zany, for lack of a better word, and for fans of cartoon humour this is a must.

Carey at his utmost best
One of Jim Carrey's greatest comedy films. Jim Carrey plays Stanley Ipkiss, a lonely guy (who likes cartoons) who works at a bank. One day with his friend Charlie he meets Tina Carlyle (introducing Cameron Diaz). Then at night when driving home he thinks he sees a body in the water, but it isn't. But on this "body" Stanley finds an ancient mask. It's when Stanley puts the mask on that Carrey displays his slapstick with the help of some convincing computer animation. This mask turns him into a mad cartoon like hero. When an evil Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene) sees "The Mask" with his girlfriend, Tina, he is wanting to get the mask to help him with his plan to take over Edge City. A very interesting romantic comedy with brilliant computer effects

Smokin!!!
A bank clerk without much success with women comes in to possession of a mysterious mask which transforms him into his inner personality. Set in "Edge City", a big American city with a pollution and gangster problem, as "The Mask" the bumbling clerk becomes an unconventional super hero in search of justice and a good time too.
