Amazon.co.uk ReviewIn a departure from the LM Montgomery book series, the third television instalment,
Anne Of Green Gables, The Continuing Story, jumps ahead to World War I and puts Anne and her beloved Gilbert smack in the middle of it. Instead of marrying Gilbert after her teaching days, as she does in the books, the couple spends a disillusioning year in New York City and then quickly marry before the good doctor ships out to France. (In the book
Rilla of Ingleside, Anne's sons go to war and her youngest daughter is separated from her sweetheart.) Impetuous as ever, Anne joins the Red Cross and crosses the pond to track down her husband when his letters are returned unread. What follows is an adventure that takes her through battle zones--where the bodies pile up faster than you can say
Saving Private Ryan--and on to London with a half-orphaned baby, her best friend's injured husband and a tangle of international intrigue. Fans of the 10-book series may balk at the divergences and the fact that very little time is spent on Prince Edward Island. But the book's unrestrained romanticism and unapologetic sentimentality remain intact, as well as the surviving cast of the prior two films, most notably Megan Follows as Anne and Jonathan Crombie as Gilbert. This film, produced in 2000, clocks in at 185 minutes and is suitable for ages nine and up.

goodI know that this film is not exactly like the book. (anne's sons go to war not actually anne herself)
but i think it is really good,a great follow on to the other films about Anne.

Anne of Green Gables - The Continuing StoryAnne of Green Gables and the trilogy above are a must for family viewing. Beautiful scenery, fine acting and a good story line make this a very worthwhile purchase. Ann

Disapointing 3rd filmWhen I heard that a new Anne film was being made I was really exited I have read all the books in the series and love them and I loved the two previous films. I bought this video but was disapointed. Jonathan Crombie and Megan Follows were convincing as Gilbert and Anne but the film was completely different from the books. It is Anne's sons who go to war in the books not Gilbert and Anne. The acting wasn't bad but I was put of by the storyline, I would have preferred it to be more faithful to the original books, I would recomend reading them as they are much better.

What a load of rubbish!Having watched the Anne of Green Gables series as a child, I was very excited to buy the video trilogy, which included this third additional film: 'the continuing story'. The first two videos were as lovely as when I first saw them, but Kevin Sullivan's addition to the story is completely out of keeping with the previous 2, and is a complete let down. I thought it would be good to see the same actors play their old roles, but the lines they were given were so lame, cheesy & out of character that Gilbert came across as wooden, & Anne seemed to have aged 100 years, & had changed from an enchanting uninhibited character into quite a boring person! The plot was completely far-fetched, unconvincing & unecessarily complicated. I was whizzed through this ridiculous storyline at such a rate that I didn't care what happened to anyone & I didn't feel moved at all, even when Anne eventually found her Gilbert. The most annoyingly stupid part was a man (Jack) who was in love with Anne and had entrusted her to look after his child (Dom) whilst he dealt with some undercover peacekeeping effort in the war. When she eventually returned Dom to Jack, he helped her find Gilbert. When reunited, Jack was sad to see Anne in love with someone else, so her parting line to him was "I'll always think of Dom as our child" ! It's pathetic & unconvincing lines like this that make the film bad. I felt that I really didn't care what happened to anyone because they had no real & convincing connection with what was supposed to be their past (the previous 2 films). Now I have to go back and see the first two, to wipe from my memory that I ever saw this rubbish!

Unexpectedly goodI was skeptical at first that this could be anywhere near as good as the original or even the sequel, but it lives up to standards, if only just.
Or, perhaps I am just outgrowing it.
Nonetheless i found this movie very enjoyable. :)
