Amazon.co.uk ReviewSince the release of his debut album, iFar From The Maddening Crowds/i, Chicane's Nick Bracegirdle has been a bit of a busy chap. After tastefully reupholstered the Clannad classic "Theme From Harry's Game" into a melodic-trance masterpiece, he then confounded all expectations by taking rock atheist Bryan Adams to the top of the charts with the friskily euphoric "Don't Give Up". These pop-dance lovelies only paint half the picture though. In between the strident hooks and glacial breakdowns which characterise his Ibizan leanings, Bracegirdle also demonstrates a not-to-be-wasted classical training. The rest of the album pitches moist, velvety pads against ear-tickling flute and a smooth, cocooning ambience. The wistful "Autumn Tactics" glides along like a loved-up Beth Orton--distant guitars chiming over whispered breakbeats, while "Low Sun" taking the baton from A Man Called Adam is like a pure Balearic dawn. All in all, prerequisite summer listening. --IPaul Tierney/I

Good addition to your chillout music collectionThis is a great chillout, ambient album. While no song is really fast or uptempo, I find it great to relax to or work to in the background while computing. The opening "Overture" with its gentle building synth chords sets the scene as if you're embarking on a trip to a sunnny destination. There are some tracks with vocals, Maire Brennan (from Clannad) and Bryan Adams feature and are very good but my favourite is the vocal on the single "No Ordinary Morning" which is sad but beautiful (probably my fav track on the CD). I've investigated other Chicane CDs but this is the one I keep coming back to this past 3 years, and have even replaced the CD having lost my first copy. So if you like unobtrusive, moody ambient electronic music, then this is a great addition to such a collection.

Come join the ultimate ambient-trance parade!Imagine yourself by the sea... Serenity, the soothing sound of the sea, small fishes jumping, seagulls flying, comfortable... Very comfortable...pThen you hear an inviting beat from the beach. You can't stop yourself from going there... Your heart beats faster and faster as you get closer. The thumping beat, the melody (seemingly joyful but carrying elements of peace of mind)...pYou see many happy people, dancing in harmony. You feel like you have just become a part of a secret gathering. The music is not the only thing you share, it is a way of feeling.pThen you calm down again, settle down, begin thinking. The worst part is when the CD is finished... You ask yourself "Where is the beach, all those beautiful people?"pWelcome to the magic world of Chicane!

Chillout? wait... Thumping? wait... Moody? wait... ScreamingI still can't remember how I discovered this album. Coincidance? Maybe. Addiction? Definitely.pThis is album is, I believe, a perfect entry point to electronic music (Of course after its predecessor "Far from the maddening crowds"). There are ups and downs, there are epic journeys, moods to chillout, 4 to the floor beats to make you scream. An album to make you feel at home, down by the sea or out in the lands or right in Ibiza, yet still in harmony as a whole.pBy the way, now I remember. It all started with Chicanes remix of "Cloud Nine", then I heard don't give up and I thought "this is OK". But when I heard Saltwater, Low Sun, No Ordinary Morning, Halcyon... There it was, I was addicted.pI say buy it, listen to it and see where it will take you, you won't regret any minute of the journey.

Another masterpiece from the great man behind Chicane! As good as 'Far from the Maddening Crowds'? You bet!! Chicane's second major album has all the quality and excellence displayed in the first, with some epic tunes thrown in.brWhat attracted me to this album (and Chicane's music as a whole, which previously I had never listened to) was hearing the track 'Saltwater' on a mates Ibiza compilation. It was then, and still is now the greatest trance tune I have ever heard combining the haunting vocals of Maire Brennan and the thumping bass and exquisite keyboard sounds from Chicane producing a tune like no other. It is a track that can be played over and over and will give you that boost of euphoria every time!brOf course the ten minutes of bliss that is 'Saltwater' is not the only great track on this album. It boasts a whole range of different styles and sounds which as Nick Bracegirdle said "represents a year in the life of Chicane." Other recognised tracks such as the number one single 'Don't give up' and the downbeat, emotional tune 'No Ordinary Morning' are mixed among less well known but still excellent tracks such as 'Autumn Tactics' and 'Low Sun'. Criticised by some for going too commercial, I feel this album hits the right balance including a good mix of chart hits and some unknown chillout greats. There is bound to be something on this album that 'hits the spot' for any lover of good music, or maybe like me you will become addicted to every tune on the cd!! brPurchasing this album (and the first release 'Far from the Maddening Crowds')introduced me to the true excellence of Chicane's music to the extent that Chicane is still hands-down my overall favourite artist! So buy this cd (and the first release as well!) and appreciate the quality that will not be found anywhere else. Simply amazing stuff!
