Amazon.co.uk Review
It's a beloved children's classic in a brand-new format, and kids are sure to love all the new music, games and creative activities on this CD. Throughout the software,I The Cat in the Hat/I is read aloud by a narrator, and children are presented with two choices: follow along with the story or play with the games and "clickables" hidden on every page.pGames are designed simply, and pre-schoolers will be able to master them without much difficulty (older children may find them a bit too easy to bother with repeat play). Throughout the story narration, early readers will benefit from seeing the highlighted words on each page--they are repeated frequently. It's a great way to foster word recognition.pThis software also teaches toddlers how to get the hang of using a mouse. They are encouraged to turn "pages" by clicking on the Cat's glove icon; they'll find this action easy and instantly gratifying, since kids can click anywhere in the vicinity and still receive hilarious results.pWho knows, maybe helping the Cat with the Clean-Up Machine will inspire your little ones to put their own toys away! --IJill Lightner/I

Qualified success
This has the characteristic small humourous animations which the kids loved in the other two titles. However the games aren't as good and the story dominates. We preferred Green Eggs and Ham but our favourite - which is for younger children - is softkey's ABC by Dr Seuss br / br /However like the others it now has a long pedigree of OS systems. We found it 'freezes' when played on windows XP. So stick to the OS systems it says it supports.

dr Seuss The Cat in the Hat
My four year old is having fun with this CD. The graphism is bold and clear, the animations are ingenious but most of all it is full of humour and make us smile. What a wonderful way to start developing computer skills and learn how to read at the same time!

Excellent extension to the book
This CD isn't a gadget-packed, super-modern "game" with bells and whistles...and that's why it is so good. It reads the book through, with excellent quality animated illustration, sound, music and most of all narration. The text of the book appears on the screen, with the words lighting up when they are said. Key words, such as "hat", turn into little pictures of the item in question, helping youngsters make the connection that words represent things, and so on. My two year olds love watching and listening to this. The other function is to flip through the story page by page, and each picture is interactive when in this mode. You can click the umbrella, for example, and it will do something animated, like open up and throw Thing 1 and Thing 2 out.pThis simple interactivity really helps younger users to realise that the mouse controls the pointer on the screen, and that clicking on images makes things happen.pIt's simple, clean, quality and, I think, ideal for 2 to 3 year olds. I think that children older than that might find it a bit dull and unchallenging.

A disappointed five year old
We would not recommend this CD-ROM either as a learning aid or as an entertainment. Certainly for our five year old, the reading goes far too quickly - it would be much better if you could pause it or slow it down in some way.pAs an entertainment it infuriated us with the constant appearances of the little creature telling us what to do if we paused for more than a few seconds and the overall content is surprisingly small.pAll in all - stick to the books!

I looked and I saw him step in on the mat...
...I looked and I saw him, the Cat In The Hat.pOur eldest daughter was entranced by this CD Rom for weeks when we first bought it. There are good fun things to click on. Moreover, the lingustic gymnastics help kids understand that words are FUN. The game is very faithful to the book and the Dr Suess Cat.pFinally, I can now recite all of The Cat In The Hat off by heart -- a great party piece!
