Amazing Mammals introduces the world of mammals via the interactive LeapPad. This book does enhance the vocabulary, like other LeapPad books, but the focus is about interesting and sometimes amazing facts about animals. In Amazing Mammals the pages come to life with natural soundscapes, animal sounds, and games. The reader will learn about the characteristics of mammals and the environments in which they live. Large, busy, full-colour illustrations adorn each of the book's pages, and the illustrations themselves speak or make sounds when tapped with the pen. Like all LeapPad books, this one features clear, pleasant voices, optional background music and a range of volume settings. --M Sullivan

Fun for dino fans
My 6 year old enjoys this one more than many of the titles. There are soundtracks playing the type of music relevant to the areas of the world different dinosaurs came from which I found interesting as I doubt if they had many musicians in those days! Nevertheless it does what it says on the cover.

Good product let down by accent
Our son has 6 Leap Pad books and this is certainly one he enjoys playing with, even though at 4 years he is a little young for it. Despite all the positive comments, which I would endorse, I am however surprised that the narrator has a pronounced American accent. This is not the case with any of the other books we have, and nowhere in the product information or on the product itself is this point mentioned. As I bought the product through Amazon.co.uk I would have expected to have received a British English version. No doubt potential customers in other English speaking countries will find this imposition of a US accent equally worrisome - especially as it was not flagged up. Additionally, and I may be on shaky ground here, I was surprised to see polar bears and albatrosses on the same "icescape". I am certain that the bears only inhabit the arctic, and I thought albatrosses were restricted to the antarctic, but I may be wrong.

From a parents perspective
My son has dyslexia. this leap pad product provides hours of fun and a unique way of getting him to read, and understand language. well worth the money

Be careful that you match the age level correctly
These interactive books are great. Full of detail but very age sensitive.

In my view you need to buy above your childs age, else like my kids they use the book for half an hour before discarding it.

As a family we preferred the Geography book which is useful for homework. Amazing Mammals like the dinosuar version is a bit easy for my 7 year old. Probably fine though for a 5 or 6 year old.

Amazing Mammals
This is brillant - my son is three and a half and plays happily with this for ages. He is mad about animals and loves hearing all the interesting facts and sound effects. Well worth the money.
