i love this cd its fantastic she is basically a female elvis in fairness ive never reallyheard a woman sing rockabilly with this much conviction fantastic! the story telling of the songs is great aswell.
Rockabilly fans will have this CD already no doubt - an essential item in any rockabilly collection. But what is there here for the pop fan - the casual browser. The answer is one of the great rock'n'roll voices delivering 30 pacey rockers of outstanding quality. Listen to 'Mean Mean Man' and you will have a taste of what this music is all about.brThere is almost too much here to assimilate - her great singles such as 'Let's Have A Party' on which she outdoes even Elvis, 'Savin'My Love' and the highly risque 'Fujiyama Mama'. Her 'I Gotta Know' shifts beautifully from a maudlin country waltz to a straight ahead 4/4 rocker.brMany of the album tracks here are truly superb such as her take on the much covered 'Kansas City' which I think is second only to Wilbert Harrison's original and the intriguing 'Tongue Tied' written by the marvellous Don Covay.brWhere to stop - her version of 'Brown Eyed Handsome Man' is first rate, Rip It Up ditto. Her taste is unfailing. Elvis said she had the voice and the feel for rock'n'roll and that is what makes this CD so thoroughly enjoyable.
Wanda Jackson is not called the "Queen of Rockabilly" for nothing. Every track a gem, with Wanda's great gutsy vocals. If you don't have any of her rockabilly tracks in your collection this is a perfect CD to fill that gap with her greatest recordings from 1956 to 1963. You'll be turning this up loud!
