Hamartia for breakfast
The self-contained story begun in Samurai X - Trust comes to its coclusion. I was really taken with the animation, it was, well, beautiful. As for the plot, more tragedy than anything else; I reckon there's a few Aristotelian terms in here (hubris, hamartia, catharsis - you know the drill).

Delighful
It is a beautiful story. It is a coming-of-age tale of young Kenshin Imura. If you ever saw the tv series you probably know that Kenshin is one of the more interesting, well-built, inteligent samurai character. With a cunning eye to understand the opponents weaknesses and with hard-rock determination, this hero is one of the best. Betrayal is the conclusion of the story which began in Trust, the story that shows us how Kenshin decided never to kill again. It is a sad story, very beautifully construed. It gives you some of the best story-telling in animated movies and a perfect example of Japanese anime's qualities. It is also a historic drama, showing Japan at one of its most troubled times, with political drama sewed into the love story and personal identity crisis of the characters. Very good!

This isn't too bad.
I probably will be referring to the wrong movie here but still I will attempt a brief opinion on what I think of the Rurouni Kenshin movies. OK, the four episodes that are split into 2 DVDs I believe consist of the OVAs. So I've seen most of the four episodes in original Japanese and never have I been stunned by the drama. The fight scenes are amazing. Well this is the world of Samurai and swordsman and I like action ^^. You'll find out how Kenshin gets his second scar in the last two episodes. He received one scar in the first episode and it is quite a shock to find out how he gets the other. I have to admit the RK series' animation is a lot better (well the series is 95 episodes and takes place 10 years after Kenshin's time as a Battousai) and the characters more humorous. These four episodes on the DVDs are very dark and take a serious tone. After all, we're experiencing the life of a swordsman who walks down a path of bloodshed. It's up to you if you want to watch these episodes, especially if you've already begun to get a peek of the series. As mentioned before, watch these episodes for your pleasure and find out what kind of person Tomoe was to Kenshin.

Good story, shame about the dubbing
To begin with, ignore the 'Samurai X' title on this video - it should really be 'Rurouni Kenshin: the movie', as it has the same characters, artwork etc. as the main series, rather than the Samurai X prequel. However, the voice actors are completely different, and far far worse. ;_; Aside from that, the storyline isn't too bad, although it does seem to occur quite a way into the storyline (or at least further in than I've got). Don't get this if you want more Samurai X, but if you enjoy something a bit more light hearted, then its enjoyable.

Not as good as the previous movies in the Kenshin series
Well, after I've seen and pretty much enjoyed both "Samurai X: Trust" and "Samurai X: Betrayal", when I ran into "Samurai X: The Motion Picture" in the store, buying it seemed like the logical thing to do. Boy, was I wrong...pBoth "Trust" and "Betrayal" were drawn in a beautiful, minimalistic and traditional style, and were slow-going and almost poetical in a sense. But sadly, the movie was not. I mean, the plot was semi-ok. But the dynamics between the characters were awful and incoherent (assuming something like that even existed in this movie). And the artwork... Oh, the terrible artwork... Instead of the fantastic artwork of the 2 previous movies, here were have cartoon-esque, childish, huge-eyed characters. I haven't seen the original Rouroni Kenshin series, so I can't compare, but its a mystery to me why they decided to use different artists here from in the previous two movies (a quick check on IMDB shows that its not the same director, so that might be it).p"Trust" and "Betrayal" focused on Kenshin, a young deadly assassin, dealing with his conscious and guilt, and his relationship with a mysterious woman called Tomoe, whom he learns to love, and on the tragic resolution of their relationship.pThe movie supposedly takes place a decade later (though I have no idea why Kenshin is drawn like a 14 year old boy here), when Kenshin and his wandering friends arrive at Yokohama, and make friends with the leader of the rebels against the Brits and their supporters. Now, in order to stop the rebels from sacrficing themselves, Kenshin must reveal the truth about himself and his past to them. Unlike the end of "Betrayal", which was unexpected and tragic, and almost made me cry, the end here was rather banal and the emotions portrayed were rather sparse (indeed, I could almost see Ash Ketcham and his gang of Pokemon trainers move on to the next Pokemon gym).
